Allowable warm up?
Some indoor winter leagues allow shooters to "warm up", or practice on match night at their ranges. Arrive a little early, and the range has an RO from their club allowing visiting shooters to practice before the match begins.
Other leagues, do not allow a warm up for visiting teams, and shoot cold bore.
Curious as to what clubs allow the warm up period around the country. Does your league allow it?
I shoot way better after a warm up- getting accustomed to lighting, sounds and feel of a range that I'm not used to.
As far as I know, outdoor matches are always shot cold bore.

I shoot 2 leagues and matches all over NJ plus lower NY. Only 1 match I've been to has a warm-up/sighter period. 5 minutes, unlimited shots.

9.2 Sighting Shots - Sighting shots are not allowed as a part of the course of fire in pistol matches.
This does not prohibit practice matches or practice targets provided all competitors have equal opportunity to enter such events or to use such targets.
Practice must not be permitted to interfere with the safe, efficient and scheduled operation of the program.
-------
Personally, I don't see any issue with it.

Re: Allowable warm up?
10 minute warm up has typically been provided at my local match. That said, i no longer use it and no longer even "warm up" at practice. Training to show up cold and ready to shoot.
If allowed, I will dry fire. Maybe that would is considered warm up? I don't know.

The car ride to the match doesn't count?

Re: Allowable warm up?
I shoot in 2 leagues in central NY and both leagues have an optional 5 shot "Luck Shoot" on a target with a layout of boxes with numbers.
5 shots in 20 seconds.
A bullet can break the line in the corner of 4 boxes gets points from all 4 boxes.
Cost is $1 and the pot is split 50/50 with winning shooter and the club.
I always participate to check my gun functioning. 2 years ago my extractor broke during Luck Shoot - yup that was lucky because I came off the line and since I didn't shoot a match target it didn't count against yearly average.
Last week the drive to match was 1.5 hours @ 16F and the gun boxes in way back of car were cold. I think it helps warm them up somewhat.

Isn't dry firing allowed during the 3 minute preparation period?RodJ wrote:10 minute warm up has typically been provided at my local match. That said, i no longer use it and no longer even "warm up" at practice. Training to show up cold and ready to shoot.

Yes, but I'm asking about live fire allowability before the match begins.BE Mike wrote:Isn't dry firing allowed during the 3 minute preparation period?RodJ wrote:10 minute warm up has typically been provided at my local match. Yes, poor thinking on my part. Aka brain fart.

Re: Allowable warm up?
I've shot at matches that allowed a live fire warm-up period just before the match. The thinking was that there were a lot of shooters who came a considerable distance to shoot and it would eliminate any advantage that a local club member, who shot all the time at the range might have. I pretty much considered it unnecessary. Canton McKinley had a practice day before match day.jwax wrote:Yes, but I'm asking about live fire allowability before the match begins.BE Mike wrote:Isn't dry firing allowed during the 3 minute preparation period?RodJ wrote:10 minute warm up has typically been provided at my local match.
