Greetings,

This ammo was only offered for a few years.

Notice the "long nose" and still 185 grain weight.

I have a box in my collection.

The bullet has a hollow base, well, more like a hemisphere in shape.

The box says 185 FMJ…

The lubaloy SWC was 210 grain.

The box states FMC, Full Metal Case.

I am a bit puzzled with what that actually means...

Greetings,

FMC (Full Metal Case) was a bullet that had a Lead filled jacket with an exposed Lead base.

This would ensure positive feeding from the magazine and no Lead fouling in the barrel.

I believe Federal 45 185 JWC Match is the same design.

The post was merely a History lesson.

As Wobbley pointed out, Western also marketed a 210 grain SWC in 45 ACP that was all Lead alloy and no jacket. This ammo was around for most of the 1960's. I still have three boxes of it from GrandPa's Army days.

The 185 grain load with the long nose was short lived. Western soon copied the Remington 185 JWC until it was discontinued. The Remington and Western/Winchester bullets weighed 185 grains; but, the Remington has a flat base and the Western has a dimpled base.

Cheers,

Dave

Thank you for the explanation!

It was unfamiliar nomenclature to me

I really like the old box designs. I have a handful of similar timeline that I need to figure out how to display.

The Winchester button nose 185 was superb, I wish I knew just how good it was when I first started shooting. IMI picked it up after W stopped. I didn't know that soon enough either...

IMI bought the tooling from Winchester In the 1990s.  I tested some from WW and IMI comparatively.  The accuracy is near-as-dammit identical.

IMI on the top,and Winchester on the bottom.  IMI had 900 ish fps and the Winchester was 800 ish.  Neither was “more accurate than my reloads with JHP (Hornady 185 XTP).

Hmmm, I'm not home right now, but I believe I have almost a case of this stuff in my basement.  Had it since the late 1970s.
