1911 Slide Mount That Allows Irons to Stay in Place
First topic message reminder :
Anyone have an idea? I'm getting a wadgun eventually and I'd like to have the option to easily switch it back and forth from dot to iron sights.
I see the Kodiak Aimpoint 9000 mount but it doesn't look like it has clearance for a rear Bomar style sight to stay in place while the dot is mounted.
I'm looking to avoid a big top rib/rail/sight combo

Can be made! However it will increase height. Actually only place scope mount need to contact the slide is where the screws are. Screws are best located where scope rings are attached.

Rich Tullo, I have a couple of newly built wad guns with Caspian (I think) frames with the Picatinney underrail. (Ordered specifically to experiment with Dane Hogle's recoil reducers). Happens that I weighed one of those frames together with a Ball Gun slide/barrel fitted with Pardini rear sight rail. The extra weight in the frame tips the total weight just over the CMP Ball Gun limit. No good. It might be possible to shave a little metal off somewhere and get the total weight under the limit, but that is a PITA!

The Caspian recon frames have more metal under the grips than say a colt or Springfield frame, easy enough for a good smith to remove if weight is a concern. A bit more advanced, but some weight can be taken off from the slide too.RoyDean wrote:Rich Tullo, I have a couple of newly built wad guns with Caspian (I think) frames with the Picatinney underrail. You may have already thought of this but replacing a steel beavertail grip safety with an aluminum version will help. Combine that with the previously mentioned mainspring housing swap to plastic (G-10), will save you about 2 oz. total.
