New Combo Rail
Given all the talk of Rock River Arms Bullseye Rib, I was given permission to share some photos and announce a new option. Dane Hogle is now manufacturing combo rails designed for 1911's using the newer Bomar/RRA hole pattern. The nice thing is that the rib is aluminum, not steel, so comes in at 78 grams with sights. A great option for service pistol, and light enough to actually run an optic on.

Re: New Combo Rail
I have to selfishly mention that the four lower ribs in Dave's photo are, actually, my custom ribs for the fitment of a Pardini SP rear sight. They are mine - all MINE!
But Dane is now willing to produce more to the same pattern if folks want them.

Ok I will add a bit more. I am not Dane, but he is a good friend and we regularly collaborate on projects and often shoot matches together. I personally have been following his progress on this project for quite some time now.
The photos posted above are of an initial prep-production run, including as Roy mentioned, a custom set specifically for Roy's needs. Online sales may be available in the future, but at this moment in time if you are interested, it is best to contact Dane directly.
Here is one of the standard rails on a gun.

Range report
Had some time to go to the range and get the rail sighted in, figured I would provide a few thoughts.
First I will identify some equipment bias, in wadguns/service guns I am a proponent of dedicated guns for both metallic and optics as you can have an optimized system for each and you can easily train with both with minimal downtime. I also don't think that a metallic rail offers any true benefit to a service gun, yes people can claim " less felt recoil" but in reality you can accomplish the same thing with handloads.
The metallic sights work as one would expect, I like the front sight width and profile. The kensight bomar style rear works well for me, I personally do not see any benefit from the pardini euro style as I focus on the front sight, not the rear.
To me the big test would was putting a 9000 on the rail, worked great. I even was able to run 160s SWC with 4.4 bullseye in addition to my standard 185swhp for this gun.
That said a combo rail is a compromise. Due to the front sight, if I wanted to run a shade on the front of the 9000 I would need to run higher rings to clear it. Also the rear sight does limit some optics position options. That said I think this is probably one of the best options if you want to run metallic and optics on the same gun.

Chiz,
"a combo rail is a compromise. Due to the front sight, if I wanted to run a shade on the front of the 9000 I would need to run higher rings to clear it. Also the rear sight does limit some optics position options. That said I think this is probably one of the best options if you want to run metallic and optics on the same gun."
Before finalising the Pardini rail prototype with Dane, I evaluated several ring options and ended up using these:
Warne 30mm Maxima Horizontal Permanent
Product #: 452548
Price Each: $51.19
They allowed me to slide the 9000 back and leave enough space to screw in/out a PhotoEscape front shade with the 9000 in place. In my normal case I do not intend to use a dot on any of my new/final (I hope!) Ball Guns, but I wanted to prepare for the possibility in future of being able to sell on the guns as dual purpose and thereby possibly enhancing value.
YMMV
Caveat:- I am not able to look at my guns during the winter and so I make the above comments from memory, which is notoriously unreliable!!!

Re: New Combo Rail
That is the hammer that was on the gun when I bought it. Someday it may return to a spur hammer. Its semi-retired now, typically only shoot it a few times a year.1911a145 wrote:Plus 50 points colt kit gun with gold medallion grips. Minus 25 points commander hammer on colt kit gun
Roy,
I do have rings that are higher than as pictured. The rings as pictured are Weaver 48364, a "low mount" option, but far from the lowest option available. I pulled that dot off one of my other guns to test on the rail.

Nice, do you know if the hole pattern is the same as the steel rib with built in iron sights?

Yes. It's the Rock River Arms/newer style Bomar rib pattern.
