First topic message reminder :

Hi everyone,
I'm an Italian guy, I've been shooting rifles for over 10 years (50mt rifle target and 300mt prone rifle)...

I just bought a Springfield Range Officer cal.45ACP from a friend who has practically never used it.... After reading here on the forum that it's an excellent bullseye gun I didn't let it slip away!

I would now like to ask for advice on reloading to start testing with rests at 25 and 50mt.
In Italy I should be able to get Vithavuori powder and as for bullets I don't know whether to use coated ones or  lead... bullet weight? primers? OAL?

 thanks everyone for the help!

This is my gun

Rich, thanks for providing your load. Could you confirm the taper crimp figure please?

as I have already been advised, is a 10lbs recoil spring ok?

 should I change trigger spring?

10 lb recoil spring is lowest you should use to avoid degrading accuracy at 50 yds.  Decrease by 1-2 lb increments until your RO cycles reliably.  There is no trigger spring in 1911

Get a Reduced Power recoil spring kit from Wolff (gunsprings.com):

This pak contains 1 each of 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15 Lb. reduced power conventional recoil springs and 3 extra power firing pin springs.

Test which functions best with the load your pistol shoots best.

You may wish to go to a 19lb main spring. (hammer spring)

The spring in it now may be 23#.

You can adjust your trigger weight by gently bending the left 2 fingers on your sear spring.  The leftmost leaf adjust the final weight (or break) of the trigger and the center adjust the 1st stage or takeup weight, which also affects final weight.

Are there no springs ready to be installed? Or is the procedure you tell me to do better?

When you lower the mainspring weight, you typically go a couple pounds heavier on the recoil spring.

A good starting point is a 19# mainspring and a 13# recoil spring for light-to-moderate lead loads.  You change out recoil springs based on the pistol reliability in function.

You are on a Bullseye pistolbforum.  We focus on precision shooting.  The feel of the trigger during firing plays a very important part in our sport.  Adjusting the weight and travel or the trigger to better suit the individual is quite important.  You will find Olympic shooters have the same desires to suit their pistol trigger feel for their shooting styles.

1911 sear springs are made the be safe (and limits the liability of the manufacturer)in nearly any pistol they are installed in.  As such, you will typically install one without adjustment and find you now have a 6+# trigger.

I just measured the trigger pull... leaving the slide closed gives me a pull weight of 4.4lbs, while if I manually cock the hammer, the pull drops to 3.2lbs... is this normal?
