Coated bullets for 45
My supply of brazos 160 and 180 flat base coated bullets have since been all shot up. Are there any other dealers offering coated flat base bullets or is everyone else going back to lubed bullets and all the smoke they produce? What suppliers are you all using now?
Thanks Jake
Thanks Jake

Yes, my recommendation would be Terry Bishop's (formerly Donny Summers) 180gr Flat Base bullets, - https://summersenterprisesllc.com/ These bullets aren't shown in Hi-Tek coated version on the website. However if you contact Terry through contact form (same as Donny before he retired), he will supply you with coated version of this https://summersenterprisesllc.com/product/45-180gr-452-swc-fb-500-ct-box/ bullet at slightly higher price. And these are great bullets!

Great. I will contact him. I ask Donny in the past but he didn’t like coating the flat base. Thanks for the info

I am really bummed out with the closing of Brazos. I have tried a number of coated bullets with no lube groove. My results have been total crap. You would think the the additional side area would help but my experience is it does not.

Oh great, I have some arriving this week ...
I was skeptical about the no lube groove when I ordered them

Don't give up. I bought some at the recommendation of a Masters shooter. I am but a lowly Expert. I seem to get high and right flyers. I didn't get them with Brazos. Still, it could be me.

I have used the no lube groove 200 gr coated bullet for indoor practice and 25Y. I haven't used them outdoors at 50 Y.
I was told that they need to be driven at a higher velocity, and then they will group better. You might try increasing your powder charge incrementally and see if that helps.
I just received an order of 200 gr LSCW BB coated bullets from T&B bullets. Haven't been able to shoot them yet, but they look really good.

You might give Bayou bullets a try. I have had some success with their 185 grain Hi-tek coated lead swc.

Received my 200 LSWC coated last week just for training at the short line. Went to to load some up and noticed lots of defects in the first hand full I grabbed out of the box.
Looks like issues with the sizing equipment, as the punch is deforming the base, and then the next one through gets the nose deformed by being pressed against the base of the other.
Not a big deal, since I bought them just for training. Not worth the hassle of returning them.
Not all of them are like this. I only looked at one box, and there are some in every hand full though.
I was wondering about the member on here that bought 10K just before me though!

Re: Coated bullets for 45
Greetings,
Interesting.
The base resembles the profile of the discontinued Winchester 185 grain 0.451" JSWC bullet.
Cheers,
Dave
