22lr dry firing
I am looking to do more dry fire training with my 22lr i know not to dry fire without a snap cap in it to protect it but I really don't want to be chasing little plastic 22lr is there a way to just leave something in the barrel and just keep racking the pistol thanks

Re: 22lr dry firing
Depends on the .22, but RedFeather Outfitters has the red chamber plug dry fire devices that were designed for the Hammerli 208 family. Might work in another pistol.

Re: 22lr dry firing
i use a #4 x 7/8 Dry wall anchor, they're very inexpensive....perhaps it might work for you as well depending of course upon your preferred platform

Re: 22lr dry firing
What kind of pistol? 100% remove the firing pin to prevent damage, or a way to keep the hammer from striking the firing pin. On my XESSE I filed the firing pin tip a little to prevent contacting the top of the chamber, this prevents contact but still have the risk of eventually breaking the firing pin. I have seen a plug that inserted in the space behind the firing pin for the Hammerli, prevents firing pin contact. On a 1911, an o ring inserted in the hammer notch prevents contact with the firing pin.

They are suppose to be dry fire safe. That said, I broke the firing pin on mine. Look on Ebay for a spare bolt assembly and replace your current firing pin with the one from Volquartsen. It's more durable than the factory part. If you do break the replacement pin there will be a replacement bolt assembly in your box. Roughly $80 total cost.
Best regards,
Arthur

If it's a Ruger MK, just remove the firing pin until ready to fire. Can remove the firing pin in less than a minute with no tools required, safest method as long as you don't leave it at home when you go to a match or the range. Would definitely buy a spare firing pin and extractor too, just in case a Murphy shows up.

The owner's manual for my Ruger Mk 4 22-45 tactical states that occasional dry firing will not damage the gun, but they do recommend a snap cap if you do it a lot.

Dry wall anchors do very well but need to be changed often, cheap enough and still usable for their original purpose after dry fire use. You can trim the flange on one side so the extractor doesn’t grab it.
