Eley Target and lite hits?
Had 4 Eley Targets click no bang lost 50 points. OK so I finished the match with CCI blue box
that were checked with a scale for weight and they shot good as always. I have had CCI's
click no bang till I started weighing them. Back home I pulled the ELEYS apart and all had
primer in the rim and powder as should be. So I put the primed cases I the gun and hit the
rim on the same spot as was hit before all went bang. Then I look to the gun a all steel Marvel
and this gun has shot anything I put in it. Checked the mainspring and it pulled at 15#
what is a good spring weight for the Marvel. A has anyone alse had trouble with lite hits
with ELEY or did my spring just lose power with age

15# seems very light for a mainspring. What did it start at when you installed it? How many rounds through that mainspring? Maybe it's time to replace it?

You're spring weight sounds 4-5 pounds light. I shoot a bunch of Eley Target and don't have any issues if I keep my chamber clean.

The lower is about a year old but a lot of rounds through it
we will have to try some stronger springs never a problem with CCI

you only need the mainspring. Try a Wolff 19# spring. I doubt it will affect your trigger pull much, but you should see more reliable ignition.

I have shot Eley Target for two years now in a bullseye league and have not had a misfire yet. Roughly 6,000 rounds and counting.

Looks like the mainspring is suspect I have a 17-18-19# I will have to try
the 15 sounds way to lite I have to wonder if the spring just went bad
I have a lot of CCI through it

Re: Eley Target and lite hits?
Mike,
I've done a lot of testing of mainsprings and even 17# is really too light for most .22 ammo to light reliably. Going to a new 18-19# might change the cycling so you might need to reduce your recoil spring by 1-2lbs. and you should be fine. Again, the additional pressure the mainspring puts to the hammer and hammer hooks against the sear will make the trigger heavier, but you can lower the trigger pull back to about the same weight by relaxing the tension on the left leg of the leaf spring.
Let me know how that works out.

Also necessary to keep the Marvels clean.
Crud builds up on the slide face and breech face. My slide can be .030 from being totally closed and the hammer will still fall.

Put a 18.5# spring in all good now.
tested the old spring again and it tested at 11# look like it just went bad
and I redid my spring testing rig to use iron weight lifting plates instead of a fishing scale

I'm glad it's fixed cuz I would have only given you $4/box for that Eley.
