Promo Powder for 9mm Hardball Empty Promo Powder for 9mm Hardball

I tested 4.5gr of Promo with a 115 FMJ.  It shoots almost identically to 5.2gr of N340 in my Beretta.  With some powders being tough to get, this might be worth a test for some shooters out there.

promo isnt really reddot.  Its a blend of red dot and american select that didnt meet spec.  you will notice some lot to lot variation due to this.  Also why it stinks like rotten eggs

Never used it, so please don't mind the question.`Is Red Dot a black powder wannabe in that it hath an "aroma"?

Remember some Combloc el cheapiest-maximus ammo in the 1980s smelled none too good when you lit them up.

Promo is NOT Red Dot.  It is actually a blend of powders made to be Ballistically equivalent to Red Dot on a weight basis.   It has a different density than Red Dot.   For those of us who shoot shot gun too, you can't use the same bushing for Promo as Red Dot, but you use the same weight.    Some say it's dirty.  I don't see the difference.......Good low cost alternative.   Never used it in a handgun load.

Last year I loaded 50 rounds of 45ACP, 3.8-4.0 grains of promo behind my hand cast H&G 68s using Winchester primers and they worked fine in my slide mount, just a bit of smoke. I use Promo in my trap loads and gave it a try in my 45. When I first started shooting conventional pistol bullseye powder is what I used for reloading. Went to optics and made the change to Red Dot with good results. Jackie Best told me to try 452AA, now my results were excellent, broke 890 several times with my reloads, several National Records and 2650 club. Then Winchester replaced 452AA in about 1989 with WST. I did extensive testing with WST and found it to work just as well as 452AA. Through the years I tried VV310,Unique and about every other powder for 45ACP and always went back to WST. Forgot to mention I own a Ransom Rest and 4 wad guns.
