Time Stamp Question Empty Time Stamp Question

Post by Dr.Don 1/28/2016, 2:48 pm

Rob,

When I am sitting here in the Central Time Zone at 1:43pm reading a post made by a guy in Anchorage, AK and stamped 3:00pm, it is clear to me that I don't understand how the date/time stamps work on this forum.  Would you please try to "un-confuse" me?

Thanks,
Dr.Don

I see you posted that at 2:48. Almost 3 hrs from now my time. This is what I have observed. If I post an OP I see it posted in my local time. If anyone else posts from anywhere else the post shows up East Coast time.

I see your time stamp as 10:48 am. Here in alaska we are -9gmt until daylight saving we go to -8

My point was that I was reading a post that was time stamped as if it was yet to be written several hours in the future.  When it is 1:43pm where I am sitting it cannot possibly be 3:00pm in AK.  They are several time zones West (and hence hours earlier).

Dr. Don,

Times are shown as GMT unless you go to preferences and set the times to your timezone.

If you really want to mess with people set your timezone up wrong.  Your signature says Minnesota but you have Mtn time set up in your profile.

Thanks Rob.  So, if I set my timezone correctly in the preferences, my posts will indicate my correct local time when sent?  What do readers see?  My local time? or a time corrected to their own timezone setting?

I can already see that, in general, the time stamps can only be relied upon if everyone sets their preferences correctly.

Dr. Don,

The forum runs on gmt, and the preferences just change what you see. Everything is chronological that way.

It is always chronological no matter the settings or the stamps.
