TW25B gun grease Empty TW25B gun grease

Post by Axehandle 6/19/2016, 7:51 am

With our short discussion on KC's Battle Axe trigger we brought up KC's recommended lube, TW25B gun grease, and the appropriate use of this lube on the hammer hooks.   What do we think of using this stuff on the hammer and sear pins too?

Do you use the Mil-Com 2500 oil on other moving parts in the pistol as well or strictly grease?

I use oil on the frame and slide...
As you can see on this 52 I apply TW-25B liberally to the muzzle/bushing area.. Same to the lug/locking area.. That's how it looked after a 900.

I use it on slide to frame contact points and it works great, especially in hot weather, but it does seem to collect a lot of grime. Clean up does seem easier.

Presently, I am using a large bottle of Machine Gunner's Oil that Bob Marvel gave me to try several years ago.. I seems to be effective.. I look for an oil that produces, and leaves a tenacious film. Not thick and sticky, but one that is durable, long lasting.. I also like a drilling/tapping fluid called LPS Tapmatic Gold..
Very oily, yet thin..It's difficult to wipe off..
I dislike CLPs ..

Jerry,
If you haven't discussed the bushing illustrated here would you mind doing so here?
Thank you.

WD40 is a good cleaner and water displacer (sic), but not a good lubricant.

The only time I use WD40 on a gun is at Perry when we shoot in the rain.  Afterwards I spray everything down with WD40 only because of its water displacement properties, and use one of those cans of air to blow it off.  I then proceed to clean and lube my guns with the usual gun cleaning and lubing products.

I WD-40 buy it by the  gallons.. I have spray bottles sitting all over the shop.. One of the best bangs for buck..
It's also great for starting a debate on other forums that runs on for hundreds  of posts, rivaled only by idiot scratch threads..  Experts abound

Quite true Jerry. Seems someone always comes along and wants the formula for Ed's Red which then extends the run of comments further.

When I was with LE, I had approx. 1000 Sig pistols, plus numerous other weapons to keep up with.. TW-25B was the recommended lube by SIG..and I had a good supply of it.. That was my first exposure to it. I soon discovered how well it performed on pistols that are exposed to the rigors of LE work..The draw back is, it is not cheap..

I'm showing my age. I was trying to make a joke. On the old bullseye-L, years ago, someone asked about WD-40 and the debate went on and on. It got so bad that I thought some folks would get into fist fights and then after a while I was worried about a lynch mob forming if someone mentioned WD-40. Back to the original topic, I was determined that FP-10 was the only lubricant to use on my guns and I still like it, but after loosing my prejudice against grease, I tried TW-25B and it is super. That being said, I probably have every kind of lubricant remotely used for guns under my workbench.

As for myself I have converted to Champions Choice red grease in the syringe.
Do not know if it is better or worse than TW25, but the results are good enough that I will not go back to all the oils previously used.
Pistols and rifles run smoother and longer before needing more with less build up of residue/fouling.

Would that be Shooter's Choice Hi Tech grease? I have some of that too. Since it is synthetic, I use it on my air guns. It doesn't hurt the seals.

Yes Mike, that is the grease I use now.

I use Super Lube synthetic grease with PTFE for my Steyr Match LP seals, mainly because Scott Pilkington advised it when I purchased the pistol.
