Todays eye exam
Bad news at my eye exam today. I been waiting for months since i had my second cornea transplant I my left eye to be able to get the right lens in my glasses. I have had cataract surgery in both eyes and cornea transplants in both. The first cornea failed and I been with out good vision for 10 months now. She could only correct the left to 20/50 where as the right is better then 20/20. At least the right is my shooting eye. It has been so many years since the left eye was good that the right eye has taken over and I see 20/20 with both eyes open. Will talk with my surgeon when I get to see him again. Don

Can the eye be corrected to 20/20 with glasses? My eyes are horrible, but can be corrected to 20/20 with glasses.

Did your doctor tell you specifically what is wrong with the left eye? Did she suggest any kind of treatment for you?

Chip, no that is with glasses.
Mike not really. It is because of astigmatisms I believe. Looking at the eye chart the vertical lines in the letters are way darker then the lines that are not vertical they are like grayed out. I have always had bad astigmatisms but up to now they been correctable. I believe that laser will fix them but don't think that is covered by my insurance plus I hate to have them doing it on my new cornea. I don't like this new lady very much but my the one I really like retired and sold this one the shop. I will say she has corrected the right eye astigmatisms a lot better then the last lady. I will see what my surgeon says in January. Don

Re: Todays eye exam
When they put in the left IOL, did you pay the additional money to have it correct for astigmatism? Insurance only covers the basic lenses I think, not sure.
Too bad you aren't here - Aravind Eye Hospital. Other doctors come here to learn, and if you get surgery, the cost is minimal. For poor people in India, the surgery, medicines, and glasses are available free.
It would cost you $1000 to to get here and back.
I could ask them if anything could be done for you, but they would need to see all your records, everything.
If you ask for a copy of all your records, you could go to one of the larger eye hospitals, and find out if anything could be done to help you. From what you've written, you really need an experienced ophthalmologist to review everything with you, but I'm sure you already know that. I don't know what kind of "shop" you are going to, but from what you've written, that's not the person to help you. Your surgeon sounds like a better option - but if so, why wait for January? Sorry if I'm asking and writing too much.
Maybe this will be useful:

...but even so, there is a limit to how many times IOL's can be replaced, and this might not be covered by insurance.

Re: Todays eye exam
Sorry to hear, Magload, but your sight is much better than mine. I was right eye dominant but after cataract surgery the left eye is 20/30 but my right eye is something like 20/200 due to advanced glaucoma in the right eye. I do take drops in both eyes 2 times a day to keep the glaucoma from deteriorating further. My left eye is taking over dominance but due to the difference in magnification when I pull up to a gas pump it seems like I am right on top of it but when I get out of the car to fill up I'm like about 5 ft away & the hose barely reaches. Quite embarrassing to say the least. At 1 time I could shoot pretty decent at 50 ft & better than decent at 15, 21, & 30 ft but now I am lucky to get a 3" group at 9 ft. I'm leaning towards either a UltraDot scope or a RMR set-up & shooting with a patch over my bad right eye. I wish you well & you well & be very thankful that your eyesight is much better than mine.

Re: Todays eye exam
Mike neither of my implants correct for my astigmatism but my glasses correct most of it in the right eye and my contact corrects all of it in that eye. I just hate dealing with the contacts. I wore hard contacts from the time I was 14 till 30 but these now days are harder to get out. I appreciate your offer but I would never go over seas I hate to leave the county I live in anymore. To much over seas in the Navy. I have no co pay on my surgery and have one of the best eye surgeons in the area.
