Loads for 45 cal 155 LSWC and WST powder
Any suggestions for loads using the 45 cal, 155 gr LSWCs I have on order from Magnus, and the large supply of Winchester Super Target I have on hand? I'd like to be able to keep the recoil springs in the my 1911s the same as I've been using with my 185 gr and 200 gr loads. I've never before used bullets lighter than 185 gr. Thanks.

I'm using the 170 gr Magnus over 4.3 gr WST in my Colt 1911 with Fitted Kart barrel. I only offer this for perspective.

I use 4.4gr WST under 160gr Valiants on the short line.

4.3 WST under 160 Dardas, could probably use 4.4
But, I still have to use a 9-10# spring....
1911 with slide mount redot.

Thanks for the replies. 4.3-4.4gr sounds like a good place to start. I'll load fifty of each and bring a couple of lighter springs along. It sounds like they'll be needed. One gun is iron-sighted, the other has a Vortex Venom dot on the slide.

Did you happen to look at Winchester's load data? I found this there. http://www.wwpowder.com/

That looks pretty typical the mfg. suggested low end data being approx 0.5gr heavier than our light bullseye loads.

I run 10-12 lb. springs in my guns. 4.6 WST gives reliable functioning and good accuracy with 155 grainers.

Been a while since I changed springs in my guns...not sure what's in there now, only that they both function well--good accuracy and positive eject/feed--with Magnus 185 gr LSWCs and 3.8 gr WST. Many thanks again for the help.oldsalt444 wrote:I run 10-12 lb. springs in my guns. 4.6 WST gives reliable functioning and good accuracy with 155 grainers.

I use 3.8gr BE with the Magnus 155 in my RO frame mount, 12lb spring. Tried 3.5 BE it wouldn't cycle consistently, need lighter spring. Darn good load at 50ft so far.
