Pachmayr range box arrived

I bought a Pachmayr range box on eBay and it arrived today. Boy, this thing is a beast! It is the 5 gun model with rear compartment. It's in excellent condition, with a great little 20x Bushnell scope. However the scope attachment broke in shipping. So I need to figure out a way to fix it or I'll look into returning the box. The dimensions are: 18.25" x 14" x 11.5" and she weighs 17.5 lbs. with scope. I've included some photos.

I bought a NOS old-school mount a while back for very little $. I am not using it and it might fit that scope.

[Let me edit to say the clamp screws down to 2.5 inches in diameter minimum. So, where it goes around your scope, it would have to be 2.5 inches or larger in diameter.]

I have a gun-ho box and use a X-large paper clamp available at any office supply store. You might have to buy a box of them (6 or so) but they come in handy for other things too.

Those are great little scopes for the shooting box. They are usually overlooked by new shooters and I never understood why. They can often be found n eBay for reasonable a very reasonable price.

The scope should never have been attached for shipping.  It should have been dismounted and wrapped with protective sheeting and then placed inside the box.  What was the shipper thinking?  I certainly wouldn't send that box back.  It looks in really good shape and they are getting hard to find in decent condition.  If necessary I hold my lid open with a small bungee cord, or paper clamp as was shown.

And another guy used one holding a scope to the top rear corner of his box lid.  The scope was attached to a piece of sheet metal (maybe 2”x1), but I think a piece of hardboard would also do as well.  The scope and piece of sheet metal was just unclamped and put in the box.

To the OP ...In time space is a premium inside a pistol box, go with the options that take up the least space for attaching the scope or holding the box lid open.

I use a 1" C-clamp with a knob attached for better ergonomics.
