Speechless. And that doesn’t include shipping or hazmat.

Just once it would be nice to see a breakdown of how and what drives these prices. Or is it simply supply and demand.

What would be really interesting is seeing what these shops have to pay from distributors. They may be keeping their standard margins but getting gouged on their end as well. S&D definitely drives this madness.

Also you have to assume all the chemicals and metal that goes into them are up about 100% and the cost of shutting down and restarting production is baked into the cake. 

A couple of months ago people were paying (not me) over $200 per 1000 so I am happy to restock and if they get cheaper well I will buy another 5K at $40 and call it a day.

An executive from Cci told me that until the ammo shortage is caught up Reloaders are going to keep having problems. He said we make more money from ammo then we do just selling components.

$485 for 5k delivered. Had to do it. Ouch.

Having bought tens of thousands of primers at an average cost jus above $100/1000 out the door, I think you did pretty well!

Well I broke down and ordered 5k.  The more I thought about the price, materials cost, and the future being far from certain, it made sense. I’ll dollar cost average with the cheap primers I’m still working through and call it a day.

FWIW, they also have Small Pistol Primers.  Same 5K limitation; same price.

Here's one for the books.  Natchez still has CCI large and small pistol primers in stock.  I know, they aren't a particular bargain, but they are still cheaper Gun Broker.  The few times I've seen primers come up for sale at an online shops, they are gone in a flash.  Hope this bodes well for the future.

Glad I’m not alone in my thinking! I also caved on the SPP. Many smarter folks than I am have pointed out that this is an expensive activity no matter what, kind of pushed me. That and the threat of inflation on the horizon (or that is with us already) made the gavel fall on my decision. Something tells me that we have gotten a bit complacent on prices.

What I really want to see are Winchester primers. Last time I found any online, even with a custom web bot scraping all the top sites faster than ammoseek can, was ~12 months ago.

So in real terms primers should be about $50 to $60 per sleeve, that makes sense.

Just for the record, went to my local gun store yesterday. Certain popular  calibers of ammo were stacked in the aisle.  The manager said he had actually cancelled a big order because he couldn’t afford to have the excess sit in the basement for three months.  It just wasn’t moving that fast.  

I gotta think that the primer shortage will be over in a few months.
