I think I’m being scammed help!

A member reply to my WTB thread has sent multiple images of the pistol he is offering for sale. The pics are different guns. Furthermore, I located several of the images from a 2 year old post based upon a google image search. 

I’ve asked for additional pics lol.  He’s probably racking his brain to find more photos to reuse. 

How do I report this behavior so a moderator can follow up and perhaps restrict this scam seller?

I won’t name them here as 3rd party action is warranted to confirm my account of the facts

You can inform an administrator of his name and the complaint and we will do our best to research it. 
You can use the pm function.

Jim above is an admin. Just click on the MP button under his name to send a PM.

Best bet is to ask for a pic of the gun setting on a current newspaper with the date visible. It helps anyways.

Who gets newspapers anymore lol. I ask for a picture with the gun and a slip of paper with my name printed on it. I did have one scammer on the S&W forum try to photoshop a picture of the slip of paper into an existing image he found, didn't fool me but could others.

It's a sad state of affairs when we have to worry about being scammed by supposed fellow sportspersons. Maybe it's time for a member to have a minimum number of posts before they are able to post items for sale on commercial row.

Thanks gents for the info and support. I had him send pics. Then later asked for specific close-ups. The grip panels didn’t match. The position of the grip screws was also different. Background different etc…

When I found the 2nd set of images was pulled from a video posted in 2020, I knew it was bad news.

Just once I’d like to see law enforcement drop a net over one of these dudes.

Folks, please report suspected scammers to us immediately.  If it feels sketchy, it probably is.  Look out for low post counts, recent joining, a history of nonsense replies to topics in order to boost post count, stolen images off the internet, Pm telling you “a friend of mine has one for sale”, no references, etc.

Thanks for contacting the admin team.  The scammer has been banned.

Since some scammers have gotten adept at photoshop, another way to handle it is to ask them to Facetime/video call with you so you can see the gun live.

Thank you admin team.  Followup question: who is on the admin team? There's a sticky in commercial row about identifying potential scammers and that too suggests notifying a member of the admin team but also doesn't list who those members are.  Maybe it's more obvious on the PC vs mobile - on mobile we don’t see information (e.g. post count, classification, is an admin?) about the user beyond their username, and don't have PM buttons etc using PM is a manual, copy paste exercise. I've been here for a few years and it isn't clear to me.

Scroll up a few posts and look under the usernames willnewton and James Chapman.  Before you get to the nra classification you’ll see their admin status.

I'm guessing you're viewing the desktop page and/or using Safari. Using Chrome browser with the mobile version of the site there is no special bolding or coloring of names, cannot click on names, no classification is shown, etc.

But regardless, why cannot there be a list of admins?

Use the “Contact” or the “Report an abuse” button shown on every page.

On the homepage at the bottom there is a list of members that have been on the past day.  Admins are in bold print.

To reiterate Will's post above, it's easy to contact the ENTIRE admin team with one step:

Just click the "contact" link at the bottom of every forum page. Let us know the USERNAME of the person you are reporting. Follow ups and back-and-forths are inefficient and leads to delay.
