Camp Perry 2014

I have been hesitant to go back to Camp Perry because I am so much older than I was since last time (1974). I decided to run the numbers to see what a person would have to do to compete in class. Scores are absolutely not important when figuring in "fun factor" but wouldn't want to go and come back in complete disgust. It turns out that most of the shooters dropped a class or two. Looks like the course was real tough this year judging by scores but the fun and excitement sounds like it was still there.

Great stats

WOW almost 53% shot below their classification while only 3.5% did better!

I typed this up a little fast and some numbers didn't add up. I think I have it right now.Just small changes.

Other than the high masters and the breakout masters, you don't go to perry to win.  Its a religious experience for most.  Its about bonding and creating lifetime memories.

Last year was my first year shooting and I went to Perry so I do get the experience part.  I was very bummed that I couldn't make it this year. 

Shooting to win, comes in all sizes.  Every time I shoot a match I shoot to win and it might only be breaking 830 with the 45 BUT that would be a win for me.  Next time I go to Perry I will go with the intention of wining - maybe shooting a personal best?  I will still have another fantastic experience no matter what!

With the open air setup and moving from one line to next being so different from most venues we shoot regularly and the added in unpredictable weather conditions at perry rarely does anyone shoot there average or better there. Perry is the holly grail of bullseye, you go for the experience, you do your best and enjoy it.

I had a few buddies to make the trip this year for their first time.  These stats will be good for helping them put things into perspective. 

The CMP stats are interesting as well.  The wind must have been killer because scores were much lower in the P100.  The leg cut was a bit lower.  The numbers of participants for Service Pistol this year seemed noticeably lower.

I couldn't believe the leg cut was 250-4x....
If only I hadn't crossfired.....

The wind really wasn't too bad--the winning and losing was due to other mistakes--maybe letting the wind get into the shooter's heads...

Well that makes me feel a little better - if I needed points, I'd have gotten them...barely! (256-?x)
