1911NM on Essex frame

Not mine, saw the ad on the CMP forums, has Bomar rib.  Not much info on it, wants $650.  Posted in case anyone here might be interested.

Make sure you have an inspection period to look at the gun or have your smith look at the gun.  A forum member bought an Essex framed HB gun at a show and wanted me to do some work on it.  Long story short the receiver was so far out I'm going to have to destroy the receiver.  Mag catch was cut so far back into the mag well most of it was cut away completely exposing the spring and the mag still got hung up in the receiver.
Just my opinion.

Trying to be kind; my experience is that most Essex frames are lacking in the quality needed for a target arm.

Essex frames varied somewhat.  While I don't for a moment question K.C.'s experience with them, my HB gun purchased new from Champion's Choice in the 1980's was built on an Essex and it was fine.  Went Distinguished with it in 91 and it still shoots great.  You just need to look it over very well, which is hard to do in a long distance sale.

Over the years I've seen good ones and bad ones. I don't have a problem with them as long as it doesn't have a gross dimensional screw up. I've seen some pretty bad Caspian and Springfield as well, but typically no where near as bad as a bad Essex. If it's a good frame i say go for it. Duh >

I have a Essex frame/NM slide gun originally built in the 70's, rebuilt within the last couple of years and have had nothing but great performance from that gun.

Not sure what the Gold Cup box has to do with a gun that has neither a Gold Cup frame or slide and I do not know what they mean by a Gold Cup trigger as it looks like a standard 1911 trigger to me.  I know the internals are different but externally that's not a Gold Cup trigger.
