I'm planning to add an Ultradot Matchdot to my 1911. Anyone have a recommended slide or frame mount?

Weaver #15 bases can be mounted directly on the slide. Lighter than a rib.

I've had good luck with Clark slide mounts and they match the holes to Bo Mar ribs so one can switch to iron sights. Looks like it is $30.00. You can see it here: http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/clk1911pts.htm#sight

clark or rock river slide mounts work great, les bare frame mounts do too its all in what you like best, you can use lighter loads with a frame mount.

Ultra Dot Mount for 1911 Empty Rings for an Ultra Dot

Post by penman53 Fri Oct 14, 2011 5:11 pm

I use the Weaver Zee rings, they work fantastic. Everytime I order a UD, I go and order the Weavers to. I don't even try to use the Ultra dot rings anymore.

I prefer slide mounts and recommend them to my friends. Marcus Chang gave me a great idea to cut down the rail so that the rail doesn't interfere with the irons. You just unbolt the rail to switch back to irons.

The marvel rail is closest to what I use. I really like it.
I only run a 3.8gr load over 185SWC and I don't have any problems with an ultradot. Just use a light enough recoil spring. You know you are light enough when the slide locks back after the last round.

My gunsmith, KC Crawford recommends the RRA Slide Mount. It also comes with "ears" at the rear that aids in racking back the slide. I find that feature useful.

Other popular mount is the Clark slide mount.
