It's Target Glueing Season!

What are all of you using to glue the paper targets to the cardboard
I have been using Elmers glue with a little water to thin it out
and put it on with a paint roller. And sometimes the paper puckers up

We always used thin wallpaper paste in HighPower rifle.

I use 3M #77 spray adhesive.

Me too. It will hold together in the rain.

I never could get good results with the adhesive spray and the over spray was messy.

Best was the old powder wallpaper paste. But with thin single thickness cardboard paste is a problem unless the backers are allowed enough time to dry so they will not curl.

I still like pasting better than staples since i know the will be enough full face targets and backers and i don't cut fingers cleaning up after the match.

I recall a Camp Perry video with a young lady giving a tour of volunteer work areas.  Including a target pasting description.  I believe the paste was mentioned.

We have been using powdered wallpaper paste such as Golden Harvest for many years.  It works very well.  However, it is no longer available in our area.

I used to use the powdered wall paper paste and a paint roller.  Then I tried Elmers wood glue (about $9/gallon) thinned just enough to go thru a sprayer.  I had a $20 sprayer for spraying contact cement and decided to try it.  I thin it just enough so that it comes out like a clogged spray paint can.  Kinda like texture on a drywalled wall.  I spray that on the back side of the full faced target then flip it over and place on the cardboard and smooth with a wallpaper brush.  I have found that I get way less wrinkles with the wood glue than the wallpaper paste.

About the only time I use the 3M 77 stuff is if I'm going for waterproof with that plastic currogated style plastic stuff often used for political and real estate signage. Nothing else sticks.

Problem with the 3M spray is that it lets loose after a few months in the heat. I'm sure they sell a bunch of it to those stupid German carmakers who have no interest in seeing what happens above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. VW (the watercooled ones), Audi, Mercedes, they've all failed miserably with their plastics...

Everywhere else, I like wallpaper paste so much for full-faces, I have even mixed up old-fashioned flour and water stuff. Just remember to salt it up enough to kill the bugs that want to eat it. I also recommend a nice blast of long-lasting Raid type stuff when first done, and again when putting away for the season, regardless of what you use for glue. I've seen bugs eat the ink off during winter storage...

No matter how you do it, smooth and not rushing it is the way to go.
