DEWC what are they good for? Empty DEWC what are they good for?

Post by Flytrap1 Thu Apr 16, 2015 7:33 am

I've aquired some .148 gr. dewc and am wondering what they are good for. I usually use hbwc. Any information on what they are designed for, the best use for them , and any reloading data would be appreciated.

Work well in most guns. A little stiffer load of bullseye as I remember. Look at the classic loads section on this forum.

Hi Fly, They are good for shooting into the X-ring at 50 yds. I believe the H&G #50 148gr

was the traditional bullet choice back in the 1950's - early 1970's.  They used 2.7gr of

Bullseye to propel them.

My original model 52 had great luck putting them sideways in the target at 25 yards. With 2.9gr
of BE.

I just received a batch from PENN BULLETS. The first load was tested for function and cycling, and then shot for score at a match. Went in cold..shot to the same zero already on the gun. Luck.. It was 2 gr of WST from the Model 52, which produced good tight x ring groups. Had some life issues the last week, so have been unable to test. Will resume hopefully next week.

Jerry,

What is a equivalent BE powder charge to the 2.0 gr of WST?

Thanks

Jon,
I don't know off hand... I just kept dropping the charge from  2.5 until it felt soft and cycled /ejected well. Remember, the frame mount , and lightened slide will function with some pretty light loads.. I have never been a fan of BE in the 38.. That classic 2.7 never worked for us in the PPC days.. I knew no one,  who was anyone, that shot it.  I have some BA10 and 231 I want to test also.. I'll set up a shortline RR to find out what is really light & tight at 25..and then work on some 50yd tests.

Jerry,

Thanks. My Clark longslide has the 1:12 twist barrel. I've been lucky that it likes just about everything. Federal match was always sub 1.5" and I have some Winchester Match to try and some Remington 148 gr HBWC. I'll be doing some testing soon and keep you posted.
