Advice on Stainless Bullseye Competition 1911

I have been using a Kimber Gold Match II mounted with an Ultra Dot as my bullseye competition gun. I got it not knowing anything about bullseye. It shoots OK for a factory gun. About 3 inch group at 50 yards with a ransom rest, with 1 to 2 flyers (1 more inch out of main group) per group of 10. I am close to getting to expert with this gun, and once I do, will think about getting it accurized to make master level.

The question is.... is it worth building on a stainless 1911? My path forward would be to get accu-rails, march barrel, fitted bushing and a trigger job. Are stainless guns not worth accurizing because they loosen up quickly. Would I be better off selling it and getting a carbon steel gun to build on?

Accurate and long lasting guns can be made on stainless pistols.  It isn't as easy, perhaps, and there are pitfalls (galling, for example; but that can be minimized).  Some smiths will work on stainless some won't so it's best to ask before you send off your Kimber.

Should you get a carbon steel gun?  Who doesn't like another 1911 around?

I would love to get another 1911 but cant afford it.  Would like to stick with the Kimber if possible since I invested $1500 in it.  But I would trade it out if it wont last. If I do move forward with accurizing it I would like it to last 20+ years.

Call Steve Huff or KC Crawford and see what they have to say. Maybe a new bushing and slide stop will tighten it up. If the scope is slide mounted the slide to frame fit laterally is not much of an issue if the lockup is loose it may need a new barrel or accuracy job.

I used a stainless Springfield 1911 .45 to set a VA State record, went distinguished in 4 matches.
VA State Badge # 4 1992 ; 
Nationals  Badge # 62,  1993
Won the Master Class Distinguished Auto Match at Jackson, Miss. Nationals in 1994..  That was before the super 9mms..
So, I'd say it will work just fine...I would accu rail it..
