Marvel .22 conversion vs. Volquartsen Trigger

I already have, and shoot a Ruger MKII competition model in a bullseye league. I want to install a Volquartsen competition trigger in it.

I also want to buy a Marvel .22 conversion to put on my Colt GCNM frame.

My problem is I can not afford to do both right now, but I can do either one right now.

Which option do you think will get me the most accuracy for right now.

Buy the Marvel.

Nelson is cheaper than marvel and better

I've modified several Ruger Mk II's for bullseye and it takes a lot more than a trigger replacement. If you have a good bullseye 1911 lower, go with a Nelson.

I have both a Ruger 22/45 Mark III and a Marvel conversion. I put in a Volquartsen trigger for about $90.00 which is significantly cheaper than a conversion. While as AllAces says, you can do a lot more to the gun, the trigger is a heckuva good start. My 22/45 is a very accurate gun in it's own right and the trigger is a huge improvement over the factory one. Having said all that, the Marvel is my primary Bullseye gun (I am currently using the 22/45 for EIC) and I do think the Marvel/Nelson conversions are the way to go. Everyone I know building or getting a build done are doing the Nelson.

A good trigger job on a 1911 conversion will ALWAYS be better than the best Ruger trigger job. The Rugers are sloppyly (new word) built and hammer and sear have too much play in them for obtaining same exact trigger pull everytime. I've done probably close to 60-70 Ruger trigger jobs over the years and know them inside and out. A 1911 can be set up with minimal trigger travel while the Ruger has pivoting trigger and will have more travel. I love the Rugers but the 1911 conversion is a much better ride.

What is your opinion of a Buck Mark? I just bought one yesterday as a loaner for my kids and friends to use.  I shot it right out of the box and shot 96's-98's rapid.  Once I got it home, I did the spring flip and improved the weight.  I've never shot an official "roll" trigger, but I'd imagine that this one is similar.  It has slight and smooth movement from take up to break.  I'm pretty pleased for $330.00.  I'll likely leave it open sighted.

I haven't touched a Buckmark in over 20 yrs, so I really can't say. Sorry

Just adding 2 cents, but the ruger (I have a 22/45) is a tack driver with the volquartzen accurizing kit that I installed myself. It was a big improvement over stock, and fairly inexpensive.

Having said that tho, I have a nelson on order.

Lightfoot,  I've done triggers on several Buckmarks lately, and prefer them to ruger triggers. I made master with a used buckmark.  The only issue I have with the buckmark is that the trigger itself is too curved for me to be really comfortable.  The key on the buckmark, like any trigger, is to match the sear and hammer surfaces. I think they install them at a slight angle intentionly

I have an old Mark I, that I feel certain somen gunsmith spent some time with at some point in his history. It has a trigger that is better than any other Ruger I have every felt. About 1/8 inch of increasing pressure followed by a clean break. Some might call it a roll, some a two statge, but you can either take up the slack and break the shot or "roll into the X ring." I had not shot the pistol in 20 years until the other day and I was very impressed. I'm pretty happy that someone worked on the sights as well since they let my 50+ year old eyes focus on the front sight. 

All of that said, I would and have taken a good conversion over the Ruger.
