New (To Me) Strong Case Pistol Box Empty New (To Me) Strong Case Pistol Box

Well I picked up a "like new condition", never used, first generation Strong Case Pistol Box. It's a three gun and very wide - I did not measure it.

The first generation scope mount seems like it's adequate enough and will work. Not as fast as a Gil Hebard mount but solid. I don't like how you gotta take it off and put it back on in a different position to keep it attached to the door and store it. So my practice is gonna be to take it off and leave it off placing it underneath lose when it's not being used or the door needs to close.

The drawer slides like glass! it's on bearings and doesn't take any effort to move. It doesn't stick like a pachmmyer. BUT! It doesn't stay put. Moves too easy. If the box is sitting on a table and it's leaning towards the opening or the door, then the drawer will slide out. Open the door and it'll fly out. So as a safety I came up with a piece of para-cord to keep the drawer in while I open the box.

The racks to keep the guns in place are usable. I have a Ruger MKIII Target, a S&W M17, and a Range Officer with the Nelson Conversion on it in the racks. The M17 needs a rag wrapped around the barrel to keep it snug, a similar fix was used on the Ruger and the Nelson fits snug on it's own. This was the only way I could tighten down the locking turn knob to keep all three guns from moving in transit. I've need a similar fix in other boxes before.

In all I'm pleased with the construction of the box. It's sturdy. And won't damage like wood could. I think it's possibly lighter but not by much than a wood box. Came with a carry strap, a nice item to have with it. And because it's wider it's got plenty of room for tools, or what ever. The tippy-ness of it is displeasing but I can deal with it.

The tray should have a noticeable "catch or feel or notch" when fully closed.  The tabs on the drawer slides may need some adjustments, or something is keeping the drawer from being fully inserted.   In addition, I also replaced the rubber feet on the shooter side of the box with some slightly taller ones from the hardware store.  Therefore the box also very slightly tilts to the back.  Just some suggestions.

The feet idea I had thought of. The para cord is just a quick fix. I'll be looking for some rubber feet soon. Thanks!

The drawer does not have any noticeable click or bump to keep it shut. I'll look into adjusting it some how.

I wrapped electrical tape around the rubber stops/keepers and that solved the free movement issue. They just weren't grabbing. Still gonna add feet eventually to the shooter side.

What spotting scope is that? I've been searching for one like that and can't find one nor a name!

the rubber feet always break off, at home depot you can get some shorter round ones with metal washers in the center, I riveted them on and they are rock solid. That spot scope is a NG its a good scope, looks like the mini in 20x but they also make in a 30x that's bigger. they run in the 300.00 range, only one vender I know of a shooting supply house in Canada, he has a ebay store he sells them out of. I have two of the mini 20x they work great but its hard to see a 22 if it lands in the black next to a ring sometimes.

I have a new three gun Strong Case that I got a few months ago.
I'm happy with it. No problems. Any bigger/heavier and it would start being
awkward to carry over much distance, though.
