Pistol Scopes

Having developed a astigmatism I have to find another pistol sight other than a red dot.
Anyone using a 1X or 2X scope on their target pistols and what manufacture and reticule do you use?

I have a astigmatism, I went with an Iris (by EyePal, about $30) and it made the dot round again.  I'm sure results will vary.  Any scope beyond 1x will amplify your wobble to the point of being very distracting.

Burris made a lot of 1x pistol scopes. Not all of them say Gil Hebert on them. There was a nice one sold last week on E-bay for 130.00. I have also had good luck with the Tasco-Pro 30mm. There is a 1x on E-bay right now. Has the right reticle too.

I have used an Eyepal and a Merit optical attachment.  They both work.  I have astigmatism and they will both temporarily fix it.  I liked the Merit the best, but then punched the hole out a bit bigger on the Eyepal and now use that to keep the sights sharp when shooting irons after getting frustrated with having to keep messing with the Merit positioning or having it fall off.

That being said, I kept trying different dots because I just could not get into using the iris with the red dot.

I was able to put away the iris for red dots by using a larger dot at a lower setting.  Matchdot or MD II at the 6MOA setting will not “star out” for me.  This works very well.  Also an Aimpoint H2 4MOA at a low setting works.  I don’t know how long this solution will work as I get older, but pretty happy with it now.

You may want to tape the lens on your non dominant eye as well. I also notice that as my eyes fatigue the astig. will worsen, so watch out for that.

Forget the 2MOA dots, you will have to use them at such a low setting to prevent starring, well, you can’t.

I have a 2X Burris pistol scope on a Ruger MkII and it works well. If interested, pm me.

Is anything,above 1x legal for bullseye?

Everything is legal just not workable. Everything except projected light sights. (no laser)

Thanks for the replies fellows. I'm not sure what your talking about with the Merit and Eyepal since I have been away from competition shooting for a while do to work getting in the way but now I'm retired and want to get involved again.
Any info where I might find these would help.

A larger aperture can allow more light while still increasing the depth of field optical effect.  Of course, being adjustable, the adjustment needs to be checked at each use and it's a heavier iris.  I modified mine with glued flat toothpicks to center my pupil in the adjustable iris when mounted on my glasses.

Stan, can you post a pic or give a bit better description of your toothpick system?

I have wondered about the Gehmann iris as a solution, but had wondered about the “repeatability” if it is knocked askew or dropped and how well it stays where you put it during a range session or match.

The adjustable iris is placed on my glasses frame for my right lens (right eye dominant).  A small mirror in the range box would not hurt anything to check out it's position before use.  It folds up (out of the way) when placed on glasses, and I haven't noticed any change in position when that happens.  What I have noticed, is that a much larger aperture than expected works.  I generally use this with iron sights and have lens corrected astigmatism in both eyes. 

It's made of metal, but I would carefully examine it if dropped.  If attached on the bench, it stays on the frame and lens very well.  It's made for shooters, which isn't to say it doesn't take some getting used to.
