O-rings for grip screws

Post by Boxturtle on Sun Feb 25, 2018 10:51 am

Awhile ago I asked about stuck grip screws, and someone mentioned O-rings under the grips.  I'd heard of this before, but never tried it.  So I went looking for the correctly sized O-rings, and quickly found them.  They were four for $2, which I was willing to pay.  But when I started the checkout process, they wanted to charge me $7 S&H.  This offended my sensibilities, so I canceled the purchase.  I knew I could get them locally, I'd just have to drive to the hardware store.

Before giving up though, I tried Challis Grips ( http://www.challisgrips.com/ ).  They also wanted $2, but for eight O-rings.  Okay, that's better, but what about S&H?  I've forgotten exactly what it was, but it was under $2, so I placed the order.  Yesterday an ordinary, personal sized envelope arrived, with my name and address and the return name and address hand written, and a single stamp.  Inside was a tiny zip lock envelope with nine (not eight) O-rings.

Now, I know they didn't make any money on the sale.  But what they did do was to earn a repeat customer.  You can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be back, and make a more substantial purchase.  Thanks Challis.

Under $5/100 if you pick them up and are recommended on Brian Enos forum
http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/120/3508/=u9xepc #9262k119

Also fit well and under $7/100 from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/006-Viton-Ring-Durometer-Black/dp/B000MNBMUM/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Bring the extras to the next match and sell them 8 for a $1 or give them away and make some new friends.

Available at ACE hardware as a #60 (plummer sizing)

I place them under the screw head rather than under the grips...
