Closet roll crimpers???

I had to call Redding to ask about their dies and was surprised to hear from the guy in Tech service that he chats with BE shooters fairly regularly who use the regular roll crimp on their 45 acp rounds.  When I asked about the probability of the mouth not being where it needs to be to establish headspace, he agreed but offered that if you just don't put the swahili on the die and go easy with only enough crimp to do the job, you get a good crimp that still arrests the case as it should. 
Anyone use this technique?  I've been thinking all along that if you want to hang with the cool dudes, you better taper crimp.

I have not yet, but I plan on trying it, especially in .45 acp revolvers, using regular .45 acp brass, auto rim brass, and Cowboy Special brass.
