Hammerli 215 is it worth the price? Empty Hammerli 215 is it worth the price?

Post by 7tcu Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:10 pm

I see several Hammerli 215's for sale on Gun Broker and other places and I wonder of they are really worth the $2000 price range. A lot of them seem to be just recently imported so there is no way to know any history on these weapons. And i wonder just how hard and expensive it would be to get parts to make any of them as new. I can't hit anything anyway so I am just wondering.

That’s very steep price for a 215. In 10 years that might be reasonable:)

For me, other than condition, the value would vary quite a bit based on accessories, or lack thereof.  How many magazines?  sight rail?  What grips? Original box and tool kit, etc.  If it had 4 mags, medium size RH Rink grip, and a sight rail, $1500, maybe more. OTOH, one mag, iron sights, no box, maybe $1000 (although I wouldn’t buy one like that).

A year or so ago I was looking for a 208S or 215S and was searching around. What was strange was looking at European used pistol websites and seeing old Hammerlis being priced under new Hammerli X-esses.

On the other hand the used Hammerlis were on the wrong side of the ocean for me and my understanding is the importing process can be a goat rodeo.

I am always fascinated by the Franken-Hammerlis the AMU is using. Amazing gunsmithing making George Washington's hatchets keep going.

That also made me wonder why they went like the Iranians keeping their F-4 and F-5s flying when there are reasonable 208 pistols on the European market.

The custom barrels AMU is using as well as the Sams Lothar Walther lines barrels shoot way better than the standard factory barrels. I know first hand..... Wink

I have a 215s with 4 magazines and for $2000, I would likely sell it. It's a great pistol, and the trigger is fantastic, but I hardly shoot it anymore. I'm surprised that they've gone up so much.

Yea, well the consensus is that they are not worth that much only as yet. I think I am going to get a Ruger Mark iv. Now the question, is the volquartsen trigger parts worth the money for what they do for your gun

Volquartsen parts are fine for a lower classified shooter. Once you get up in the classification they will limit your potential until you have an actual trigger job performed. If you put the parts in yourself, have fun! The MKIV is a barrel of fun to reassemble.

Now thinking about what you said, how will these trigger parts, limit your potential, I don't have any potential, but I was just wondering

Not with that kind of attitude lol. Jon is just saying you can only get so good of a trigger with drop in components. I had a full Volquartsen pistol and even the trigger on it was not that great. The trigger kit is a big upgrade from the stock Ruger trigger though.
