Weather at Perry? Empty Weather at Perry?

Post by Al 6/21/2019, 10:12 am

Anyone have any idea what the weather has been like in the Port Clinton area?
Starting to pack & wondering if muck boots & heavy duty rain gear are going to be needed?

Got the ammo packed last night. Guns that are going with get cleaned up & ready this weekend.  Have to practice with the backup's until after Perry.

Allen I am wondering the same thing! My father lives in Meigs county on the river about 150 miles to the south. He says it has been raining a lot every day and he can’t even mow the grass

It has been raining a lot. I recommend boots and rain gear this year.

My wife follows a Port Clinton site and the downtown area by the Jet Express and the Fish Co. has been flooded on an almost daily basis.

No news about the Camp. I think there is an ORPA rifle match there this weekend so maybe some news after that.

Definitely bring boots!

Looks like mid 70’s-low 80’s with occasional rain for Perry

Rain?  Likely.  Sun?  Probably.  Wind?  Definitely.

I'm bringing a 2 waterproof jackets (one light and one heavy), sunblock, 2 pairs of waterproof boots, waterproof pants, and a good attitude.

Always bring mud boots and rain gear. No matter what the forecast says.

I don't think I've ever seen temperatures colder than low 50's at night. Low to mid 60's is typical for first relay, 80's in the afternoon is normal. I don't think I've seen temperatures over 100 in the last 15 years, but there have been some very hot 90's with full sun and high humidity.

They improved drainage several years ago and it is much better than it used to be.

No one is allowed to walk past the targets, the mud is because of the herds of shooters walking back and forth to score & change targets.

Our son lives @ Fremont. Last Monday the area was 1 foot ahead on annual rain fall and he rarely saw a field in which a farmer had been able to do any work.

He was complaining about all the weekends being rainy and he was unable to get his new car waxed because of continual rainy weather.

The flooding mentioned in downtown Port Clinton was due to near record high water levels of Lake Erie. This is part of a cycle of rising & falling water levels in the lake and the flooding is caused by winds from the east. Perry shouldn't be affected too much by this, the rain fall amounts are the larger culprit. We lived on Catawba for 39 years and during those yrs became used to this cycle.

I was at Perry yesterday for the CMP 800 and EIC (rifle) matches. We were on Viale, starting on the 200 yard line and walking back (through the mid-range area) back to 600 yards. Surprisingly dry, no muck or standing water, a few mayflies, as expected. An east wind will blow water towards the Toledo area, increasing water levels in Port Clinton near the docks and Jet Express. Further east down Perry St. towards the Kroger...no problems...there was even quite a bit of exposed beaches across from that row of nice homes. But really not much to worry about at the range itself. Of course that could change in a few weeks, and depending on storm surge, etc.
