Hornady XTP 185 JHP Bullets
Has anyone tested these - how do they compare to Zero or Nosler?

I have not put them in a ransom rest, but they seem to shoot ok. Typically only shoot jacketed stuff in the service guns, so my use is limited. The profile is a bit different than the zero’s I typically shoot so I had to adjust the seating stem accordingly.

I use the 185 Hornady HAP bullets in one of my 45s. It is identical to the XTP bullet except for the skives in the nose of the bullet. They shoot just fine for me.

I found you need to seat them out a bit more, otherwise crimping pushes them back into the case. Shoot well though

I did not see a statistical difference when Ransom testing last year, but admittedly I'm not clamping-up a superior custom pistol. Bullet OAL: XTP (.544"), Magnus (.539"), Zero (.540"), so not a lot of length variation from what I have in my stock. As far as diameters, my XTPs are a mix of .450" and .451". The Zero and Magnus are .451". They all vary a thousandth or so in diameter from the base up to the end of the bearing area. My service pistol load is 4.0 gr e^3, WLP, Starline, 1.200" COAL, 0.468" size/crimp, 13# spring, and 1:16 barrel. That averages 740 fps with low ES. I've achieved 1-1/2" groups at 50 yds with that load with the 185 XTP and Zero in the RR.

Xtp 185 jhp were not as good as zero 185 jhp from my ransom rest. They weren't terrible, so if that's what you got run them with confidence. But if there are zeros available get those instead. I haven't found any noslers to try.

I recently bought a box of the 185gr. JHP Noslers from Fin Fur Feather in Ohio.
They still show as in stock.
NOSLER 44847 45CAL (.451) 185GR CUSTOM COMPETITION JHP 250 CT.
