Looks Like Hammerli is Gone!!!
Was just looking at the Walther website for Hammerli's. Looks like they are now gone and been replaced with a look alike Walther they are calling the "Classic"!!!!

IMO, Hammerli's effectively been gone since the mid 1990's.

It looks an awful lot like a walther trailside /x-esse, but now it is a "CSP". They will probably change it again to something else before very many make it to stores here.
Anyhow here's the walther video on it;

My low end model Xesse SF Long came with the rail and fixed front sight, I notice the low end CSP Classic has the same fixed front sight and no rail.

But it's an 11mm rail. Weaver/picatinny won't mount as they are more like 25mmJHHolliday wrote:Unlike xesse it comes with a rail

It looks to me that there are a lot of 11mm scope rings available for 1" and 30mm scope tubes, as well as, other sizes. Am I missing something?10sandxs wrote:But it's an 11mm rail. Weaver/picatinny won't mount as they are more like 25mmJHHolliday wrote:Unlike xesse it comes with a rail

Interesting how they stressed the linage to the Walther Olympian. After WWII Hammerli made the Olympian and then improved it, that was the 208 if you look at the 2nd generation Olympians and the 208 without the barrel weight they are very similar.

I use a Primary arms and Aimpoint 11mm micro base works great. I just line the base screw up with trigger pin when I clean the gun and never lose zero by more than a click at 25 yards if at all.jglenn21 wrote:No you're not missing anything

Re: Looks Like Hammerli is Gone!!!
The scope rail for the Xesse SF is kind of a waste of time. I have one unused I can sell for what I paid, $90. It is a regular weaver rail that mounts one the barrel with screws, so you have to remove the scope and the rail to clean the gun. If you are ok with with that $90 and it is yours.

No question the trailside and xesse/ csp are entry.level 208s. Design is very similar and some parts like the mainspring are the same. They are great little pistols

Re: Looks Like Hammerli is Gone!!!
Ok, just received a newer all black XESSE marked SF Sport, dated 2022... IT DOES have: the adjustable 2 stage trigger plunger, rotatable front sight, black sights, and laminate target grips. It DOES NOT have: machined 11mm groove on the barrel, and not drilled and tapped for the scope rail.
I think the older bitoned XESSE Sport was machined for the 11mm rail and drilled&tapped on top of the barrel?

I just received black Xesse Expert SF with walnut grips dated 2022. No grove on barrel, not drilled and tapped.
I have a scope mount that attaches to the groove for the barrel weight. It comes off and on easy but don’t know how well zero is maintained.
Trying to install CMM grip adapter.

Re: Looks Like Hammerli is Gone!!!
I have a 208s and like it. It’s a nice pistol. But I’ve read on here the Xesse also does very well and capable of upper level competition. I’ve shot both and like the 208 better but my scores are the same. So I decides to use the Xesse or Nelson conversion until I get better, a large part because parts are available and cheaper. And now it appears the Xesse is being discounted. I wonder how long the new version will last. That’s my major complaint with Walther.
My 45 scores are often better than my 22 scores using a Nelson conversion or the Xesse.

Re: Looks Like Hammerli is Gone!!!
I have a Chinese copy of a Walther 1930's Olympic pistol that is exactly like a 208. I think someone said here that after WW2 Germany could not make guns so Walther sent the work to Switzerland. Not sure what Hammerli was, a Swiss gun maker? Maybe someone from Walther moved to Switzerland and started the company and got all the Walther tooling! Maybe just a way to get around the gun ban!
I asked about new Walther 208ish pistols a while ago, also read they were not available in the USA. Reason given was they didn't have a safety but they Do have a safety!
Are they now available?

Hmmm ... been thinking of someday picking up a 208. But I greatly prefer Shrimp or Salmon.

Ok, the TENIFER black slide Xesse, EXPERT and SPORT does not have the integral 11mm dovetail. The LONG and IPSC both have the 11mm dovetail. The LONG does not have the adjustable front sight or the adjustable trigger plunger.

11mm, 3/8" ... etc. Ran into conflicts here and there, even not considering flat or round top. Remachined a set or 2 rings to fit 'something' that wouldn't otherwise take them out of the box.
And then there's 'Weaver' vs 'Picatinny' ... but if you've got the option to match brands ...
Maybe ...
