Crimping Coated Bullets 45 ACP
I've always crimped 45 ACP hard cast bullets for Bullseye at .467. Numerous blogs on the web have said to reduce crimp when shooting coated bullets. As I value the expertise on this list I'll ask the question for those shooting Hi Tek coated bullets. Did you reduce the crimp when you switched to loading coated bullets? Don't want to revist a thread to crimp or not to crimp 45 ACP loads.

Nope. I crimp to .467. The admonition to reduce crimp is from PLATED bullets. Coatings are more flexible than plating.

I have crimped .466", pulled bullet with a kinetic puller and while the crimp made a ring/indentation on the bullet the coating did not break down. This was with Brazos coated .45 200 gr SWC (H&G 68 style). They shot very well.

I crimp my 185 grain Bayou HI-TEK coated bullets to .464-.465, they seem to work great and shoot well.

Well, I would still pull a bullet from a completed round. If the coating is damaged, reduce crimp. Always find out for yourself.
