Looking for load recommendations for a new custom 1911 longslide 6" with a 1" Ultradot, figure I'll need a bit of speed to keep a new tight 6" running reliable.

I've got Starline brass, CCI primers, Hornady 147 JHP, powders to choose from are Power Pistol, WST and Bullseye.

What is the barrel twist? Typically, 147s don't shoot well out of the 1:32 5" barrels. If yours is 1:16, with the extra inch length, you very likely could find a good (subsonic) load.

The best 147 Hornady xtp load I have ever shot was 4.4 grains Winchester super Field with a Federal small pistol primers and an overall length of 1.10. Very accurate and comfortable to shoot. Use just enough Crimp to straighten out the case. .378 to .379 inches. Hope this helps.

It's a 1:10 twist. Got 4# of Power Pistol on order and got a photo out of a Hornady reload manual showing their 147 load data, I'll probably start around 4.5 grains which should be about 900fps. I'll also try some lead wad cutters.

This probably won't help you much since you didn't list it as a powder choice, but I have used WSF as recommended by JIMPGOV and thought it worked great and was soft. The charge weight is 4.0 grains. Average FPS was 940, through a Colt barrel.

I'll be interested to see how you come out with PP- I have some, just haven't loaded any yet.

Best,
Chase

KC sent me this a few years back with a 38 Super.  With 452AA gone I used WST...  Not powerful but accurate.
