I had been contemplating a 38 super pistol as a bit of a fun project that may see some bullseye competition use. Some of you were nice enough to give me some input in my other thread and some listed the basics of their loads. I've pulled the trigger on a Sig Traditional Match Elite Stainless pistol so need to start developing some loads.

I was hoping we could make a compilation of everyone's successful 38 super target loads. I'm particularly interested in lead loads as I cast my own bullets. I have several pounds of WST and a pound of bullseye in my stash. Thanks in advance.

Any input on this bullet profile & weight. I'm thinking about this mold, looks very similar to my .45 SWC bullet profile.

If you meant to show a bullet profile it is not showing up. I don't have any good loads to share Zane. I am also looking for a good starting load. I will probably load bullets before I get my new barrel.

I will probably start with a hornady 147 gr RNBT. 3.0 BE. I have a lot of these bullets to play with.

I'm leaning more toward lead options simply because I cast. I cast .45 bullets for about a cent and a half, these 38 super 140 grains will be just a hair over a cent.

You just reminded me that we need to add the line. " convert your .45 to .22 so you can practice for a lot less money" to the 3 other great lies.

You will save money by reloading!

You will spend less per shot but don't expect to put any 'savings' back into your bank account.

Looks good Skid, I can't remember if I've asked but have you ever chronographed this load to see how fast it is?

I just ordered a 100 pack of the Bayou Bullets 150 grain SWC bullets and 100 of their 147 grain FP bullet. I may also order 100 of these to see how they compare, do you buy them sized to .357", that seems to be the most common 38 super lead diameter.

Well I just ordered 100 of the Dardus 126 SWC bullets as well as 100 of the 150 grain SSWC from Meister, both are sized at .357. Now I will have 4 different bullets to test when added to the ones I got from Bayou.

Now I have to figure out how I want to load them all. I have WST & Bullseye on hand, might try to get my mitts on some 452AA as Axehandle had some great looking 50 yard targets with it under the 150 SSWC Meister bullet.

Zane I don't have a chronograph (yet) so I don't know how fast they are but I've never had 1 fail to eject or have a alibi during a match and I like the recoil. also a small note I use the same load for the long line and the short.

Are you running the stock recoil spring or did you have to drop down in weight?

My .38 Super was built by Clark and I don't know what weight recoil spring is in it, but I should find out just to know.

Skid, if you have time can you measure your OAL and crimp diameter for me please. I'm trying to write down notes for all these loads I'm going to try. I'm gonna have to stay organized during my load development or I'm gonna be all over the place.

No problem, The OAL is 1.250'' and the crimp is .379. With lead bullets I don't believe the OAL is to critical you just want to leave a little of the shoulder sticking out of the casing and mine turned out to be 1.250. I hope this is of some help.

Zane,
So I called Clark and found out that I have a #14 recoil spring and that is a std weight recoil spring for .38 supers.
