Atlanta Arms no longer using Starline? Empty Atlanta Arms no longer using Starline?

Post by zanemoseley Fri May 24 2019, 12:36

Shooting the TN regional short course today next to Greg Markowski and just noticed the brass he is dropping is a mix of Jag and Summit. Never really heard of either. He's definitely shooting Atlanta Arms, I think 185 JHP. Sucks for guys buying AA to get Starline as a bonus.

Interesting.  All of my Atlanta Arms .38 Super, major PF rounds are Starline brass.

I went back and checked my stock and found two boxes of Atlanta Arms .38 Super, Minor PF rounds that have JAG head stamps.  It's supposed to be very good brass.

I also picked up some RWS stamped brass today. I didn't look at the boxes of ammo directly but sure seems like it's mixed new headstamp. Really odd, if you asked me yesterday I would have guessed were all new Starline but now appears they may use 3 or more headstamp mixed.

What makes this brass better than others, and where/how can you buy some?
I thought "Starline" was the best???

“Best” brass generally is a myth. Jagemann is excellent brass. As is Starline and Norma. Maybe others. I’ve shot some very good groups with most makes. Bad ones with many makes too. 90% of the accuracy is in the bullet.

Jerry Keefer and Ransom Rest testing I've done do not concur.

Is it ok if I'm confused? I thought Atlanta Arms came with Atlanta Arms headstamp. Is it the re-loaded ammo that comes with a different headstamp? And if it's re-loaded I don't know why it would be a surprise that it is different.

My limited supply all look like this.

Brass length is most important. The closer it matches chamber length, the better.

I shoot Atlanta Arms .38sp religiously and .45 ACP semi-religiously and have never seen anything other than an Atl Arms headstamp.

Hmm... I swear I thought someone told me that they used Starline but I've never shot any so must be mistaken. I did order 500 rounds of Zero new 185 JHP ammo yesterday and they told me they use new Starline brass for it. Not a bad price considering, $.40 a round delivered but I just ordered some new Starline brass and its $.17 delivered.

ASYM uses Starline and is the only thing that goes in my 1911s other than AA.

You should try Zero brand ammo. They use the same bullets and brass, they're also far cheaper and have free shipping on 10 boxes or more.

Good advice, thank you. Where do you get yours from?  Roze Distribution is completely sold out of 185gr.

Rose Dist. is where I ordered, I think that's basically buying direct. Their site showed the 185 as out of stock but I called and they actually had 185 with new brass in stock.

An email from Atlanta Arms:

===================
Good morning Mike,

Our Fully Processed Brass is mixed head stamps. Unfortunately, we do not sell just our brass with our head stamp on it.
Thank you for your patience, and have a wonderful day!

Shooting with the AMU at NRA Action Pistol (Bianchi Cup) events all the 9mm Atlanta Arms Elite brass was either JAG or AA stamped.

ASYM that I have bought over the years has been headstamped either *- or ASYM.

My most recent batch, purchased this spring, is "nickel" (meaning silver-colored; I have no idea what the alloy is) and headstamped ASYM.
