Factory 45 Ammo

Post by ScottSimmonds on Mon Aug 29, 2011 7:48 pm

Heresy Alert!

At this point, I have no interest in reloading. I want to spend my "free-time" training and shooting.

I have read the prior posts on Zinns Ammo.

Any suggestions as to other factory-made .45 ammo I should consider?

Thanks.

Scott

There really isn't anything else I have heard of that is designed for bullseye shooting.

If you find a friend at your club who reloads, buy your ammo from them. If you pay them the same that you would for over the counter ammo, it would be more than worth their trouble.

Zero makes some very good ammo for bullseye pistol shooting. You can peruse it at www.rozedist.com

I would use the 185 LSWCHP

This is supposed to be good stuff

Expect a 2-3 month wait for NSK and Zero..

I purchased a case of AAA's standard 185. I have shot a little over 250 rounds and have had no discrepancies with my Les Baer.

I've had good luck with the Wilson Combat 200 gr LSWC ammo.

It looks like Gunny Zins ammo is a bargain compared to some of the others.

I did not know about TWO ammos until today. From the link above:
"Gunny Zins ammo packs are sold by the case at 1000 rounds. (500 rounds of 50 yard ammo and 500 yards [sic] of 25 yard ammo"

I got an order of 1000 rounds early on. The rounds tested on the chrono were like 690-710 fps. I bet these are the 25 yd. I better open the other box.

Correct me if this is the wrong assumption. When you bought the ammo there was no mention of having 2 different loads. You were not given the option of 2 different loads or simply getting the 50 yard ammo and reloading your short line. There are no markings on the boxes so you have no way of distinguishing the difference between the two different loads.

Jack H,

How did you figure out which ones were short line and which ones were long line?

I have not done that yet. I do not know if my two 500 round boxes delivered are even different.
From the one chrono session, I think what I have shot so far is slow 25 yards stuff. When I get time soon I will chrono the other box.
