barrel stud keeps coming loose.

The barrel stud on my HS pistol keeps coming loose. I installed a LSP barrel with a new stud. I did not use any Loctite, should I have?

I had this happen on a LSP barrel on my 107 Citation as well after about 9 months. Used Loctite and hasn't happened again.

LocTite is good stuff.

However, the parts have to be very clean.

Wash with carburetor cleaner and dry.

Once assembled, walk away and let the LocTite harden/age overnight.

Blue removable Loctite. I used alcohol to clean parts and blew off with air. I did let it sit overnight in vise before installing barrel again.

Shot a 96 SF with the LSP barrel today.

The best surface prep cleaner for Loctite is Acetone. Be sure to use the good stuff though, nail polish remover is cut with perfumes and water. Get the can in the paint department.

The Engineering Dept at High Standard in Conn determined in the 1950/60s that the Barrel Stud should be pinned. I don't think that they had Loctite in those days. If the Loctite doesn't hold you can always drill and pin the Barrel Stud.- Alan Aronstein

Real solution is like Giles did.  Drill for a set screw from the back under the chamber.
