Newbie from New York

Good Afternoon from New York (Yes we are allowed to have handguns here on Long Island and in Manhattan - I have permits for each location)

I am new to serious pistol shooting, though I have been shooting pistols (as well as 100, 200, 300 and 1,000 Yard Benchrest, Skeet etc. ) since the late 60s. At 71, I am not new to a lot, but have a bunch to learn.

Looking forward to learning about Bullseye as I think I have a couple of pistols that fit the bill. Now for me to get good at shooting them.

Welcome! Any leagues near you?

There is a league at the Southampton Rifle and Pistol Club that is only about 9 miles from my house in Sag Harbor.

I am a member of one club in Manhattan, but have never shot there, so I can not say whether they have a league or not.

I would think that there probably is a league at Brookhaven Gun Club, which is open to the public.

My home club is private, but allows guests. We have a 6 position indoor range, but it is only 50 foot and not 25 meters. We do have outdoor pistol ranges to 100 yards as well as rifle to 200.

Just curious- is your permit for concealed carry, or "Hunting and Target" only, and what's it take to get a permit in the Big Apple? Police?
Also, what kind of guns are you bringing to Bullseye?

I have had unrestricted Concealed Carry permits in New York State and New York City since 1971. Where are you located? Maybe we can chat in person one of these days.

Welcome to the wonderful and wacky world of Bullseye! 

You can shoot matches in a 50 foot range with targets for that specific distance, so no worries.

I'm at the other end of the state Bob- country between Buffalo and Lockport.
Another commonality- At one time, many moons ago, I was WA2RBA. Loved DX-ing on 10M.

Thanks for the information about shooting at 50 feet. I will have to order some targets. We do have a lot of members that shoot for practice on our 50 foot range and than shoot in Southampton in the league.

JWAX, Are you still licensed? Maybe we can set up a Sked. I have equipment for 160 thru 1296 inclusive. 10 would be fun during a band opening.

Sorry, Second week of March I got Covid 19 and updated my Will. At 71 with a Pacemaker, A Touch of COPDA, having survived two types of Cancer and having had lung scaring since I was burned in 1969, I figured I was a goner. But, here I am. Bought 6 pistols post surviving.

I have been a member of Cherry Ridge for quite some time, but can't bring my pistols from New York to New Jersey as far as I know. I will have to check it out further.

Here in New York I legally can not let anyone shoot any of my pistols that does not have a valid pistol permit.

There are active clubs on LI, Roslyn is one. Gary Peterson was the contact but it may be Don Brummer now. I'll get the contact if you can't find it. There was a lawsuit by NYSRPA against the issue you cite. NYC changed the law to avoid trial and it was scheduled for a show with "The Supremes" . First gun rights case since Heller. Roberts sold out on us and allowed the cased to be called moot. That said, please join the New York State Rifle and Pistol assoc n to stay abreast with these and unSafe Act issues. Thanks
