Sizing 45 Colt cases Empty Sizing 45 Colt cases

I have Lee dies for 45 Colt. Also have Lee 45 ACP dies. Can I interchange the sizing dies? Can I use the 45ACP seating die to crimp the 45 Colt rather than the 45 Colt FCD? Just started loading 45 Colt with 200 grain lswc coated bullets from Acme and Brazos. New Winchester brass and Federal LPP. HP-38 6.0 grains. Shooting in a S&W 25-3 6.5” barrel at 15 yds in our Friday night shooting league.

The correct answer is:

Maybe.

There are some who use a 45 Colt die, or a 454, to size ACP. And some who don't size at all ...

For reference, here are the diameters of a couple dies I have.

Redding carbide ACP: .465
RCBS Steel, Colt: .465 (at the neck)
RCBS Carbide 454: .467

Depending on what yours are, it may not make any difference at all.

Crimping is a matter of clearance for case wall thickness. If it's heavier, the Colt may get squished a bit in the process, like the FCD. The specs show it to be larger, but that might be with the original .454 bullet. And an ACP die is most likely a taper crimp, vs a roll or profile crimp commonly used for revolvers.

I only have ACP  dies.  I loaded 45 colt since 1990 with them.

My 45 colt used 452 bullets.
