I am really hoping $80 for 1k is not the new normal

This weekend I opened a fresh box (1000) of CCI SPP. I had gotten it on sale 3 years ago for $28. Just 6 months ago, I was able to buy some for $40 (limit 1 per customer). Now everywhere I look is $70+ and out of stock. Luckily I have enough to last me for the next 3-4 years, or until the implementation of the Canadian handgun ban, whichever comes first.

When a product sells out within hours of coming in stock, and users are willing to tolerate Limit 1 (i.e. another 35% for hazmat, ship and tax) it just doesn't make sense to lower the price. I'm surprised the retail rate isn't $110

I believe $80 is fair given the demand as MSRP on primers right now is about $60 as the cost to make them when up a lot too. I do not think you will see $30 new primers ever again. But even at these prices it sure beats factory ammo and factory 45acp is no fun to shoot.

During the 22 shortages in the Obama years it felt like you'd never see cheap 22 ammo again yet CCI was available for $225 a case for a good period of time. I feel like things will work out but could take time for prices to lower. The next election could help or hurt the demand. Trump years were crappy for arms and ammo manufacturers.

As the prices of Lead , tin, mercury, and labor are all up 15% to 80% the prices cannot fall much below $50 at this time.

I think the prices increases are mostly due to supply and demand.  While labor costs are up as well as commodities.  The amount of material in a primer is pretty small.  I would bet most of the higher prices are due to the difference between what the manufactures are selling for and what the retailers are charging.

MSRP is up too about $60 on the CCI website.
