208 problems Empty 208 problems

Post by WYogeorge Wed Feb 08, 2023 7:20 pm

I Bought a 208 and it is not firing all rounds. When the round do not fire the extractor will not eject round either. First time at the range it was the last round out of the magazine. I have since retro fitted a couple of 41 mags and it is a lot more common. I started out shooting cci standard velocity then we to some high velocity I had laying in the box.
Any suggestions?

Thanks
I am going to do a good cleaning tonight

There's been several threads about this problem over they years. Use the search function to find them.

That being said, I'd list these as the most likely culprits:

1) Dirty chamber (keeps the round from seating all the way, and when the hammer hits the firing pin, it's energy is wasted driving the slide all the way closed).

2) Weak/worn mainspring. Get a replacement from Redfeather Outfitters.

3) Peened or soft firing pin. Replacement from Redfeather.

Thank you I seen some of those. I will get a few parts coming. I also did the drop in thing and they do not drop all the way in. I will try some better ammo.
Thank you

I would not recommend using HV ammo in the 208.  You may end up cracking the frame.

I just received the main spring and firing pin today. I will install tomorrow when the recoil spring shows up. I did clean the chamber real well but that did not make a difference.

Still same problem. Replaced firing pin and spring, main spring and recoil spring. Still either light strikes of something. erratic on when it does it. Sometime goe 20 shots sometimes 2. I tried eley target, eley club and cci sv. Some problem with all. I can say I have never hated a gun as much as this one. spend more time with a ram rod then I do shooting.

When chambering a cartridge, does the slide rest completely against the barrel/chamber face? If extractor spring has tension is too much it can push slide out of battery enough to misfire.

I just boxed it up and sent it to a guy in Arizona that Red Feather suggested. We will see.
