Interesting Bullseye Range

Last year a buddy of mine and I went to a couple different matches that we don't normally go to, Bristol Indiana and Talladega.  Got me to thinking that I am missing out on some great places to shoot so I am going to try to hit at least one or two matches a year that I would not normally go to.  Looking for suggestions East of the Mississippi.

By the way, Both were very nice, if you have not been I highly recommend.

Of you’re ever in northern NJ, go to Highland Lakes/ Cherry Ridge. Dave Lange and Mary Badiak ( tower talker at Perry) put on a good feed and a great match.

I would have recommended Castleton ny but they’re looking inward right now. Our new range replacing them is North Troy Stag in Melrose ny. ny no longer deserves capitalization….

Another good range is Rockdale/Sidney NY off I88 near Oneonta NY. has 900 matches. 

Magic city gun club, north of Birmingham Al.

The Wisconsin state match in late August has a good turn out and is a really nice range.  The range is just outside Beloit Wi. Just over the Illinois border

  Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) puts on our state match also in August. The range is near Bonfield Il which is close to Kankakee.  

  Aurora Sportsman Club in Waterman, Il puts on a couple 2700s with EIC matches during the summer.  Their range was recently built is top notch.

Southern Indiana Rifle and Pistol Club (SIRPC) puts on nice matches. I've always felt welcomed and enjoyed myself.

Outdoor matches in Borden, Indiana -- The range is in the back 40, across the crick. :-)

Indoor matches in Georgetown, Indiana -- I definitely recommend getting lunch there at the range cafe.

May be helpful if you tell us where your home base is. Here are a few I can recommend from personal experience and have regular monthly matches.

I shoot normally at Miami Rifle and Pistol in Batavia Ohio.  However like I said I am just looking for Ranges East of the Mississippi that are interesting places to go to.  If I hit one or two a year it will add a bit of flavor to my shooting.  A well ran match, a good range, good chow, good people, makes for an interesting shooting experience.

My Father was a lifetime member of the Aurora club, when they were in Aurora The city tried and tried to shut them down, Then the club found out why, a telecommunications co. wanted the property for a cell phone tower and someone on the city council thought they could shut them down and then pull a eminent domain and get the property so the city could get the cell contract, As it turns out the club got the contract with the cell company leasing them the property and with that $ built the Waterman range while the building was going on the club got picked for the summer Olympics and they got more $ to just about make a CMP style range and they still get the lease $ from the old range.

Fairfield Sportsman association in Cincinnati is a good range. Cardinal Center is fantastic. Obviously Canton McKinley is historic in the game. These ranges also hold State Matches. Lancaster Pistol and Rifle is a smaller club and has six 1800 matches throughout the season.  Indianapolis has good matches too. All in a fairly reasonable drive from Miami Rifle and Pistol.

I talked to my travel buddy and we are going to try to add the Wisconsin state match that John Dervis mentioned as we don't have any matches on the schedule as of now for August.

If you want to get in 2 ranges and matches, the Aurora Sportsmen's Club monthly league match is usually Saturday of the same weekend as the WI state match, the 3rd weekend in August. You are welcome to shoot the league (3x900's) as a "fun match" without paying the league fee. ASC is in Waterman, IL about 60 miles South of Beloit and an easy drive up Rt 39.

Jon Nortemann, WI State match director, NRA referee and all around great ambassador for the sport, makes sure the match is scheduled before the National Matches, so it may be a few months before we get an official date, but it's been the 3rd weekend for the last several years.

The Raleigh club should be Durham Pistol and Rifle Club, DPRC. The web address is DPRC.org.

Cardinal, Perry and Ionia Michigan are possibilities
