The common way that checks are made used to be 100% for EIC and random for NRA, depending on the Match Director and Referee.  I have been to several Sectionals that did a 100% check and many 2700s that did random checks.

Of note:  I was at a Sectional one time where a competitor had a gun not make weight.  Instead of increasing the weight, they protested, "Why do we need to have a referee check all our guns?"  The obvious answer is, "Because many guns (like theirs) don't make weight and the shooter is either unaware or purposefully not in compliance.

Shooters should check all the safeties every time they reassemble and the weights every now and then.  They should also be aware of how to increase the weight, or have a backup.  I needed to switch to a backup one time in Germany due to a failed weight check on my primary which didn't have any adjustment available.

As a BE pistolsmith, probably 95 percent of the pistols I work on have triggers that grossly do not make weight. I always set weight to proper NRA rules before giving them back. These shooters are not shooting great scores either, so they're not benefitting from it. I've never gotten a trigger that was too light from a Master shooter. 100 percent of the PPC pistols I work on make weight. PPC had weight checks all the time.

Have your smith install the sear leaf adjustment screw on the 1911 hammer spring housing.. It can save much anguish when in need of a few extra ounces to make weight..I had a picture on the site some where.. A search should turn it up..Frankly, I think light triggers promote "chickin finger".. I want to be able to lean on the trigger a little without fear of it going off..When my lady shooter started shooting the 52, she complained about the 2.5lb CF weight.. Had to move it to the same 3.5 lb. weight as her 45..and she shot it much better..
