Anyone use a powder weight in your powder tube?

Does anyone have any experience using a powder weight in their Dillon powder reservoir tube? Like this one -

If so, does it actually do anything to improve charge consistency?

NOPE, TO USING ONE . I JUST KEEP THE MEASURE FULL. I FILL IT AFTER 200RDS ARE LOADED.

The old Star reloader came with one. I  just checked with a couple buddies who have used it. They find no variation in measured charges. I've always tried to keep the measure more than half full. I don't think it's necessary.

Nope.  And going back to my benchrest rifle days, keeping the same cranking force (vibrations) on the unit seems to do everything within reason that a weight and hopper filling does.  But do always cycle a couple throws if your cranking cadence is broken.

With those tin baffle inserts, I don't know how a weight would work anyway

I have used the RCBS powder measure without a weighted follower, and now use two Star presses with weighted followers.  I prefer the weighted powder follower as it seems to be more consistent.

You could test the "improves charge consistency when the powder reservoir is nearly empty" theory in your press before you buy this fancy brass-and-aluminum contraption, by using a short bolt (say, 1/2" diameter, 1" long), a corresponding nut, and a stack of fender washers (say, 2" diameter).  If it helps, it could be useful when keeping the powder reservoir more than half full isn't practical, like when using up the last of your remaining stock of a particular type of powder.

Prairie Dog 6-101 is worth every penny.  

I have them in my Dillon RL1050s.  

Terry at Magnus Bullets uses them in his commercial loaders.

I use one on my hornady LNL, it works fine keeps constant downforce on the powder in the hopper, my charges are very consistent, is it better with it? hard to say but it doesn't hurt. I don't use the prairie dog baffle in the LNL because it didn't seem to help but I do use one in the Dillon 1050 as it does seem to help.

The old Star Loaders had an Aluminum Powder Hopper. The "weight" had a piece of wire that showed the user the amount of powder in the hopper.

When they switched to the clear Polycarbonate tubing, the "weight" disappeared and a plain Aluminum cap was on the top of the hopper to keep stuff out.

Both Star hopper designs have a built in powder baffle to maintain a constant volume regardless of powder in the hopper.
