I am new to bullseye. I have been shooting at B-16 targets for fun and will soon watch a few matches at the local range to get familiar with matches/meet shooters. If I want to simulate a short match during practice would I shoot 10 rounds (slow) at a B-16 and 20 rounds (rapid/timed) at a B-8 target and score for an idea of my results? Thanks. Mike

That would give you an idea of what you're capable of if you were gonna shoot a short course match. There's no replacement for 50 yard shooting. It's a bit different. Close in score sometimes but it's a different shot than at 25 yards.

Thanks for the reply Tim. Will do. My challenge is moving from decent two handed accuracy to offhand shooting. It's not starting over but sometimes feels like it.

Speaking from my own experience don't hesitate to get to larger matches once you get started shooting. I was stuck at small local matches for nearly my first 2 seasons, there we shot a 25 yard reduced slow fire and non-turning targets.

I still shoot the local matches but try to make it to a more "official" match once a month with 50 yard slow fire and turning targets. I've also started to begin practicing 50 yards more as well. The 50 yard bull does look a decent bit different than the 25 yard reduced target, the 50 yard black portion is much smaller in relation.

Hey Cape, you can always come up to Maine this fall for the lobster match.  It is the NRA Eastern Regional Championships.  It's not Perry but it's a pretty big shoot with the military teams usually coming as well as a few top shooters.  Last year Phil Hemphill, the national champion came up.  There are usually a couple of manufacturers that show up and give away things for the drawings.  It is a real good time and you can see that a big shoot is nothing to be intimidated by.  There have been shooters from all over the country there and some retirees that travel around shooting make it an annual trip.  If your interested you can find it on the web under lobster match maine.
