School me on SW-41 mags

Please excuse my ignorance but are there differences between SW-41 mags, such as years of manufacturing?

If so, what differences are there?

Are any of these different versions of SW-41 undesirable to use for BE competition?

I know of no undesirable 41 mags. There are some more desirable then others. The older original mags have a removeable bottom plate and are a lot easier to clean, change springs etc. You can tell them from newer versions by the release hole in the plate.

Actually the newer floor plates slide off too,   Pull the spring up through the cut out and the pin lifts out of the floor plate, then they slide off.   Some people then drill the release hole in the floor while it is apart.

I have 4 of the orange 12-shot mags and they all seem to work for BE.   I have one of the black follower 10-shot mags and it needs the lips tightened up, but would work fine if I took the time to adjust it.

Yes, there are differences. First 3 or so years of M41 production, pre A series, the magazines were 2 piece, metal followers, staked back and very desirable for collectors of those early guns.

Then one piece magazines, with metal followers, a lazy "&" kinda on its side on the base (S&W stamp)

Then same but with upright "&". You will see a lot of these 2 types.

Then newer with plastic followers (black) and then some orange followers.

There may be more, but this is what I've seen.

Of the plastic follower mags, some do not have the takedown hole.  Plus some of those are also welded so the base will not come off.

I feel that I have missed something. I did not know that anyone made 12 shot mags for a 41. Learn something everyday on this forum..
