Re: Nra distinguished revolver
I hope for a while! I know the CMP came out with their version of the badge, and I might chase that one too, but I like the heritage and standardization of the NRA badge/rules. That's why I pursued it these past few years (late to the revolver game). Just hard to find matches that 1) still have the NRA DR match since many are switching to CMP and 2) within a reasonable travel distance to compete. Should've just legged out for NRA DR. We'll see how long it takes for the paperwork to catch up after sent by the match director.adminbot1911 wrote:How long do we think distinguished revolver WILL BE around for?

NRA DR Match in NJ this weekend
Current Rules require an associated NRA State or Regional Championship to offer a "local" opportunity for NRA DR...
The good news is that we will be having one this weekend (6/1 and 6/2) in Gibbsboro, NJ, and current signups suggest we'll get at least one leg!
https://www.njpistol.net/signup/match_cal.asp?mobv=0&nemail=&date=6-1-2024#myevent2
"Walk-ins" are welcome
(We will also have CMP Revolver EIC, etc!)
If we get a few of those, a second leg may be within reach!

I really like how you guys show how many non-distinguished shooters have signed up! That would be nice if everyone did that, even if it is just an estimate

Re: Nra distinguished revolver
And remember another difference between NRA and CMP is how many you need for a leg. NRA rounds up at 5, CMP at 6.

Re: Nra distinguished revolver
Well, it looks like the answer to my question is six months. Just noticed it was updated last week. Now we'll see how long it takes to get the swag (badge, certificate, lapel pin). Now the next question is how far behind were they? Have to see what my badge number ends up being.Poacher92 wrote:I hope for a while! Does the NRA still do anything to support it? Or are they still squandering our dues on the executive board and letting every other facet of being a pro 2nd amendment organization wither on the vine?

They do but it doesn't always appear that way. Support it? Yes. Promote it? Not really. NRA DR matches are still held at state and regional matches, and of course NRA Nationals. I've shot it in recent years at all three and earned points at all three. I legged out back in mid May and it just updated on my dashboard the beginning of December. And that was with some prompting. Still haven't gotten all the swag or even know my badge number. Going to give them another couple weeks before I start 'inquiring nicely.' I will also ask if they can post an updated list as the last one is almost three years old now.lonegunman wrote:Does the NRA still do anything to support it? Like I said, supporting, yes. Ted Carter posted on the NRA Precision Pistol Facebook page almost three years ago with the picture of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals sent to match directors to award to participants the day of matches, independent of who gets points towards DR. (I'll try and add the pic.) The problem I ran into was finding matches that I could travel to. There are a lot of places that have switched from holding NRA registered matches over to CMP registered matches. And they now have their own version of the DR badge (Dist Service Revolver). That has more to do with overall disdain between mom and dad fighting in the kitchen which ended in divorce. People (match directors, state organizations) chose sides. It is what it is. There are foiks that are still pursuing the NRA DR badge and I hope that continues, but also have talked to a couple that gave up because of frustration (results not sent in or posted, lost points, etc). I still have the gun and ammo so I'll go after the CMP badge (16 points currently) because...why not? I really wanted the NRA badge though and am proud I reached that goal.

I just applied to run the Regional and NRA Dist Revolver match at Cascade on 4/26-27/2025 along with the CMP EIC's.
Donna at NRA competitions helped to make sure the NRA DR EIC gets approved.
Stay warm,
Scott

Greetings,
Will the Cascade Regional be a 2700?
i.e. three gun, 22, CF, and 45?
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,
It's an 1800 3-gun + NRA DR, CMP EIC's for Service Pistol, Service Revolver, and .22.
310 rounds down range. Tournament ID is 2025184561 held CSF in Ravensdale, WA.
I can send the bulletin to anyone that would like one.

DR is probably a ways down on the NRA competitions list of things they would like to support/make better.lonegunman wrote:Does the NRA still do anything to support it? Like it or not a significant amount of the shooters strongly opposed the NRA leaving Perry and honestly that hurt the sport as a whole, and for those chasing DR they lost one of the best opportunities to earn points towards the badge (which the NRA also has struggled to track individual shooters points). It will take time, effort, and a significant step up in leadership in the NRA competitions department to get back on track to being any semblance of what they once were.
Even before the NRA left Perry getting enough non-distinguished shooters for a DR match was challenging. Shooting a revolver is a challenge, and on top of that the strict ammo requirements added a level of procurement difficulty, 158gr 38spl is not necessarily available at every gun shop.
From a Match directors perspective, it is also a hard sell to advertise a match that will struggle to get enough participants for the match to be points eligible.

Happy New Year's Scott,
I'm sure I am on an email list somewhere, please include me when you send everything out. I guess I'll get serious about adding a 22 and revolver medal from the CMP.
