Guns Magazine has back issues from 1958-1972 online you can read through.  Go to their web page and scroll pretty much down to the bottom and there is a link to their "Classic Issues".  They have them separated by year and then the monthly issues.  The articles are interesting and it's neat to see how things have changed (or maybe how much they have stayed the same) in the firearms industry.  You'll have to hunt through the issues, but there are quite a few articles on competitive shooting back then.  Harry Reeves actually had a regular column on competitive shooting in the early 60's which is something I never knew.  I also like looking at the ads similar to what you see at the top of this thread.  Lots of ads for gun boxes, bullseye shooting gear, and accurizing plus other ads for hunting guns and gear.  You will get a kick out the pricing back then too.

I have access to several American Rifleman in the 50s 60s and 70s.  Not every one though.
They were at my club and likely to be thrown out several years ago.

Back in the day. F95b5e10

Back in the day. 4a1be010

From the May 1960 link above.
Does anyone know what the numbers are today?
Average match participation seems like it would be way down.
