Bullseye Powder 50y Load
My best load below is using BE with 4.7 grain, which seems hot enough (3.5” groups). My scope rings come a bit loose every time... I didn't use a ransom rest, but rested the pistol on a table. I can shoot better than my loads, so I'm wanting to tighten-up a 50y load.
Load data:
What can I do to increase accuracy with these Bullseye powder loads?
Load data:
- 4.5-4.8 grain Bullseye
- 181.5 gr Brazos
- 0.922" length from shoulder to bottom of brass
- 1.25" OAL
- 0.469" crimp
What can I do to increase accuracy with these Bullseye powder loads?

Re: Bullseye Powder 50y Load
Out of curiosity have you tested your pistol with factory match ammunition to confirm its own ability to group? This will let you know how close you are getting with your reloads.
Your loads are quite warm. Are you springed properly? If too light, your groups will open up. What pistol are you using?
Assuming 185 Brazos?

Re: Bullseye Powder 50y Load
The usual load for a 200 grain cast bullet is between 4.0- 4.2 gr. of BE with a .469 crimp.
For a 160 cast bullet( 168gr. actual) I load 4.5gr. of BE. BUT I MUST tighten the crimp to .465.
I am not familiar with your bullet but the load seems hot to me. The dimensions you give for dimension shoulder to bottom of brass and OAL seem to be for a 200 gr. bullet.

82 gr bullet???? Did you mean 182? If so, 4.5-4.7 grs Bullseye is a lot hotter than most of us are willing to tolerate. 3.5-4.0 would be more in the ballpark. If that won't work, I would be looking for another bullet.

I wonder if this is some of my problem with my old Colt wad gun?

What can I do to increase accuracy with these Bullseye powder loads? EDIT: These loads are not 3.x, they are 4.x.
Your image noted as 3.7 BE looks pretty good to me, especially with a loose scope and from the bench. I would use some BLUE locktight on your scope screws, snug them down and do that some more.
FWIW in my slide mounted scoped guns shooting 180/5 gr and 200 gr LSWC bullets 4.0 and 3.8 grains of BE respectively is the ticket. If running 185 JHP then the load goes up to 4.4 - 4.6 gr BE. Pretty much the same charge weights using VV N310. Using WST then charge weights about 1/10 gr more. (Actual charge weight not volume setting on powder dropper). Last, I would find 4.5 - 4.8 gr BE with a 180 -200 gr LSWC to be an unnecessary pounding load. If your gun will not run the aforementioned loads without going into the mid 4's with BE, my guess is that it is over sprung, or under gripped.

Hi Jon,
I am using a Les Baer Custom (2" groups on rest) with a 14 lb spring. I am using the 180 Brazos, but it actually weighs at 181.5. I'll take some Federal Gold Match 185 to the range tomorrow and let you know how it does.

Apologize, type-o, 180 grain bullet, but weighs closer to 181.5

I wish I could shoot 3.5-4.0 of BE or even WST, but my LBC with a 14# spring doesnt cycle them with that low of a powder charge.

Change to a lighter recoil spring.

It's hard to beat a 185 gr. JHP, such as Zero, at 50 yards with your powder and load range.Orion wrote:PMcfall wrote:82 gr bullet???? Did you mean 182? As suggested by someone else, it is as simple as changing to a lighter weght spring! I use 10-11 lb recoil springs in my slide mounted dot pistols.

I’ve changed it out with a 10 lb Wolf spring before, no go.

Re: Bullseye Powder 50y Load
I changed out my brass using only once fired federal gold match brass and decreased the BE powder charge down to 4.2. Group of ten looks better, but I’m not sure why I’m getting 2/10 outliers.

Re: Bullseye Powder 50y Load
Could be any number of reasons. First thing I would do is to weigh the bullets in case there are heavyweight or lightweight bullets. Save them for the short line. Were the out of group shots first or last shot rounds? And finally, you are shooting them off the bench not a Ransom Rest, right? If so, there could be the flyers.

How many rounds have been put through the gun? Is it tight? Is it time for LB to test it?
