2024 NRA National Matches at Camp Atterbury 

Here’s the latest from Stephen Lucas, NRA National Pistol Manager. 


We have dates for the 2024 Nationals at Camp Atterbury! 

Precision Pistol will be first up this year on July 22-25, 2024. Small-bore rifle and high-power rifle will follow. 

Packet pickup will begin on Sunday, July 21, and continue on Monday morning before the opening ceremonies. The Opening Ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22. And, it will be at the home of precision pistol – Range 19 – this time. Indiana First Lady Janet Holcomb has demonstrated her skills with a rifle in years past on the ceremonial first shot. Hopefully, we can convince the First Lady to give one-handed bullseye shooting a try for 2024.

The Preliminary Pistol Championship will follow the ceremonial first shot. The Harry Reeves Revolver match will close out the first day’s shooting. 

The rest of the week will have the .22 caliber matches on Tuesday, July 23; centerfire on Wednesday, July 24; and the .45 matches on Thursday, July 25. 

Stephen is still working on additional practice sessions and the side matches, as well as more cool stuff from sponsors. His goal is to have 150 competitors for precision pistol. 

Feedback from competitors in 2023 has driven planning for the 2024 National Matches. Tightening up the scheduling of the precision pistol matches is just one example: Shooters can come straight from the Camp Perry matches without a slack day. 

I expect more news to come. I’ll keep everyone posted.

About the September dates-
Additionally, Farmer addressed competitor requests to separate some of the events, perhaps even moving the NRA High Power Nationals to later in the year.
“Some folks said they are looking to shoot in cooler temperatures and just have enough time to enjoy High Power,” he said. “Due to timelines and operations around us, the NRA was unable to establish this for 2024. So, we have moved that suggestion into the 2025 National Matches calendar. We will be talking with Camp Atterbury base operations next March to discuss this push to have the High Power Championships moved into the fall.”

Great news! Thank you for posting. Excited to hear opening ceremonies with Indiana's First Lady will happen with our pistol matches too. I'm looking forward to Atterbury 2024

Will there be a pistol EIC match during that period.

The 22 EIC match is scheduled on Tuesday after the 22 900.
Service Pistol is scheduled for Wednesday after the Center fire 900 
Dist Revolver is on Thursday after the 45 900.

Atterbury has on-post housing for a reasonable cost.  I'd suggest contacting the post housing to make a reservation.

There was, as folks may recall, an issue with housing in 2023, namely that it was scarce.  This was due to a heavier training schedule and necessary restoration work from housing 7200 Afghani refugees.  

I haven't heard about the training schedule; it may depend on certain current events, eh?  The renovation/restoration is scheduled to be complete by May 2024. That estimate is a few months old, so here's a grain of salt.

I did check with Stephen this morning; he said he is still working on the housing issues.  

As far as off base options go, I suspect they are similar to past years.

I'll provide updates on housing when I get them.  Keep the questions coming!

Housing information as of 10/26/2023

I called Camp Atterbury Lodging today and learned the following.

On-post lodging should be available for the matches.  

• If Atterbury needs the space for soldiers, however, you'll get booted.
  
• The renovations directly affecting lodging have been completed.
  
• Training schedule will likely be similar to last year.
  

Rates for 2024

• Standard (one person, shared bath) - $43/night
  
• Deluxe (two people, private bath) - $58/night
  

Reservations 

• First day to make reservations: December 1, 2023
  
• Number to call: 812-526-1128
  
• The office has limited staff, so please be patient and polite when calling.*
  

*That's my suggestion; if you want to be otherwise, it's your blood pressure that is going up, not mine.

Camp Atterbury will open lodging to competitors on Friday, December 1, 2023. Unfortunately, Camp Atterbury is experiencing network connectivity issues, which means the phone lines are not working and we have intermittent email access. Camp Atterbury is aware of the issue for shooters planning to call on Friday. We have created a new email address for competitors to send their reservation requests. The email address for all 2024 reservation requests at Camp Atterbury for NRA shooters is: NRA2024CA@gmail.com

The request email needs to include:
• Name(s)
• Dates requested—arrival and departure
• Room type—deluxe or standard
• Contact number

Once the request is received, the Camp Atterbury Housing Staff will check availability and call you back. They will then then confirm all the information and ask for payment info. This phone call from Lodging will complete your reservation.

No Issues getting through this morning and making reservation!  Very good experience actually this year!

You are right -- that was a great experience, silky smooth and prompt: Sent the email at 11:23, got the call at 11:32.

I doubt I'm going to be able to make it in 2024. Edinburgh, IN, is a long way from Menlo Park, CA.

I guess I'll have to find another way to cover my truck in dust next July!

Y'all have fun without me. It was a well-run match in 2023. I have full confidence that it will be even better in 2024.

I'm sorry to hear you won't be at Atterbury in 2024.  It was great seeing you there this year!  God willing, I hope to be there next
year if I'm feeling well enough to drive from Prescott, Arizona again.
